    Macbook Air 820-00165 Not turning on

    This is my first Macbook repair. No signs of liquid damage.

    Laptop does not power on. I have a 45W Magsafe 2 charger. When I connect it, the light turns green for a second and then amber.

    PPBUS_G3H = 8.6V
    PP3V42_G3H = 3.42V

    No 5V signals are present. There does not appear to be a short on the 5V rails. No signs of life with board out of chassis so no keyboard or other peripherals connected.

    What do I check next?

    What's the history of the machine?
    No PP5V_S5 you mean? Check SMC_PM_G2_EN.

      Re: Macbook Air 820-00165 Not turning on

      I don't know much of the machine's history. I bought it broken from eBay. The listing claimed it was working and suddenly died one day. It also said the keyboard was fully functional up until the laptop stopped working.

      SMC_PM_G2_EN = 3.42V
      PP5V_S5 = 5.0V

      There was another 5V rail that was missing. I'll have to search for it.

      Thanks piernov

        Re: Macbook Air 820-00165 Not turning on

        Check all your power rails again.
        And make sure you use a *genuine* Magsafe 2 (no 1→2 adapter).

          Yes I believe it is genuine Magsafe 2. No adapter.

          PP5V_S4RS3 = 1.15V checking on L7520. This voltage rises slowly to 1.15V after I connect the charger. Takes a couple of seconds.

                Those are weird voltage measurements… doesn't look good.
                Check voltage on PM_SLP_SUS_L, PM_SLP_S5_L and PM_SLP_S4_L.

                EDIT: and post a picture of the CPU area, heatsink removed.

                      sounds like a rabbit hole, inspect the board again (hope u didn't clean it), maybe u can find something really suspicious

                        Resistor below the jtag connector on the bottom left looks a bit dodgy.
                        Also it looks like there are some missing parts on the two fets below the inductors. The whole area on the buck converters look like someone had a go on those. Looks like flux residue if you ask me.

                        You should verify with boardview and schematic.

                          Yes, inspect closely for liquid damage.
                          Voltages on PM_SLP_S5_L and PM_SLP_S4_L are weird. I'd expect something closer to 0V if they were really missing.

                          Check voltage on all the _SUS rails.

                              I suppose this points back to the PP5V_S4RS3_EN line which comes from PM_SLP_S4_L?

                                          Hi everyone!

                                          I have a 2018 MacBook Pro (with Sequoia OS) that I've been using for years with no problem. I recently received an M2 MacBook Pro so I'm mostly using it and not the 2018 one, but since a friend of mine needs a computer, I thought I could restore my 2018 and give it brand-new-like to my friend.

                                          I tried using the built-in tool to restore the MacBook (Settings > General > Transfer or restore > Delete) but it got stuck when trying to remove the Find Device configuration (it asked me for the password for my old Apple ID -now I use the same account but...

                                          I would like some help with this MacBook if possible. It came in with not turning on and the Magsafe light was off. After inspecting the logicboard i cannot find any liquid damage and also no burnt or shorted components.
                                          took some measurement and i can see i have fluctuation on PP3V3_S2 and also PP5V_S2_MAIN amongst other rails. Using the thermal camera RC282 & RC283 were pulsing, but after removing these it was still the same.

                                          I then did some investigation into why the rails were pulsing and noticed that P5VS2_PWR_EN (comes from U8100) is also doing the same thing.....

                                          Got a MacBook Pro 15" A1990 with a board issue, The board turns on, I did a DFU revive to see if it needed a firmware patch, that was successful, however the board just keeps boot looping and turning off and on very quickly. Obviously the DATA Is there, but it wont even launch into recovery, it will just die and turn back on with Apple logo, once it gets really hot it dies, if the laptop sits for the day and is cool, it will turn on then get hot within 1 min then die and turn itself on and repeat. Once it does that it turns itself on and off repeatedly in seconds. I put a thermal camera...

                                          Hello everyone.

                                          I have recently obtained a MacBook Pro A1989 model with a touch bar and Apple ID. Unfortunately, it does not want to start up.

                                          No CPU Voltage.
                                          U7800 Does produce voltages.
                                          T2 Chip warming up very very little.

                                          I do have voltages like 1.8, 0.9, 3.3, 2.5 volts, etc., present. I did not find any short circuits. Unfortunately, the device has no touch ID/start button. So, I have used the debug jumper to put the device into DFU mode. - It is getting recognized as a Macintosh while not in DFU mode and as Apple (DFU) while in DFU mode....

                                          Hi., today working on a Apple MacBook Macbook Pro A1706 (Board part # 820-00239-A) not turning ON with battery. The notebook turns on 100% fine with USB-C Power adapter (NO BATTERY INSTALLED), boots up well & all seems to be perfect.
