Re: Is New ME region necessary?
ME region needs to be cleaned everytime a BIOS dump is transferred from one board to another, or if PCH is replaced. (that applies to Intel platforms only, and not on Core 2 Duo or older)
ME region is paired to PCH the first time the board is powered on.
Dirty ME region can cause all sort of issues including slow POST and shutdown after 30 minutes.OpenBoardView — https://github.com/OpenBoardView/OpenBoardView -

I'm going to try to get your process down for the ME Region cleaning .
Thank you very much.
Once a rom file has had its ME Region cleaned ,that saved file can be simply be programmed each time since it has had the file saved with the cleaning, correct? In other words you only have to clean and save the file one time.
What about a the Bios on a external video card ? need MEregion clean too?Last edited by macattack600; 08-14-2019, 10:01 AM.Comment

Re: Is New ME region necessary?
Yes a clean ME file can be flashed on multiple boards, it is not bound to a specific PCH anymore.
VBIOS on graphics card don't contain ME region, since they don't have an Intel CPU/PCH on it.OpenBoardView — https://github.com/OpenBoardView/OpenBoardViewComment

Re: Is New ME region necessary?
What is wrong with just using HxD and write block with New ME ? I like your video online but seems there are easier way?
Is it more reliable your way?Last edited by macattack600; 08-16-2019, 03:03 AM.Comment

Re: Is New ME region necessary?
This method keeps the configuration set by the manufacturer, rather than replacing it with Intel's default configuration. For more information: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/gu...lization/31277
Improperly cleaning ME region is known to cause problems in some cases on Macbooks. (there are some reports of webcam not working after cleaning ME region improperly)
Also I don't think messing with a hex editor is easier than clicking a few buttons in Intel FITC…OpenBoardView — https://github.com/OpenBoardView/OpenBoardViewComment

Re: Is New ME region necessary?
Do you have to use original bios or can you take chip from other board same model and erase then program with Apple ME FITC , FITC is much betterComment

by AdenitzHello laptop repair experts,
can someone plese, help me understand the significance of cleaning ME region in a BIOS dump file?
I know that Manegement Engine (ME) data is part of BIOS/UEFI firmware. I know that it contains some HW specific data for the particular laptop.
What I don't know, why do I need to clean ME region if I try BIOS dump file from another laptop (of course same type and model). I'm not sure if this is only because of the serial number (not sure if that is stored in ME region at all).
Recently, I had a two cases where laptops (one is Lenovo Idepad...10-21-2023, 04:44 AM -
by Lexsmash85Edit: apologies, I only need help with the DMI info.. I thought the ME region would need attention in order to recover from bricked state but maybe I misunderstood.
Im a novice to this experience but in short, I performed a backlash from the latest and final bios firmware BHCN45WW to BHCN26WW hoping that would solve an issue with keyboard functionality failing after an update. Ended up hanging during flash process and then system would no longer POST on reboot.
USB recovery process didn't seem to take. So today I successfully managed to get the BIOS dump from my machine...-

by reessiHello:
I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.
I started on the ACER:
Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.
I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap... - Loading...
