    Elitebook 820 BIOS update failed

hello everyone, I need help troubleshoot my laptop. So far I already tried:
    • Unplug the adapter & battery, push power button 30sec.
    • Unplug adapter, battery, cmos/rtc battery, and push power button 30 sec

    but still no progress

it's happen when I try to upgrade BIOS, it's said my laptop will restart several times and it's normal, so I wait for about 5 hours with adapter plugged and no completed sign at all just blank screen and caps lock/num lock light blinking (and keep restarting again and again).

I planning to change the BIOS chip, but this 8-pin WSON type (W25Q128JVPG) unavailable at my country. Can I use 8-pin SOP (W25Q128FVSG) instead (in case the chip gone bad).

If there's any suggestion I should try without involving hot gun would be best .

thank you in advance and sorry if my english not very clear

I also attach the picture of my motherboard:

Read datasheet, i think compatible bro.

Just compare it both those data, especially on:
    • 3. PACKAGE TYPES AND PIN CONFIGURATIONS
    • 3.1 Pin Configuration SOIC 208-mil

Why change the BIOS ROM chip? If you failed flash, you need to reflash it.
Either by using the recovery procedure of the laptop, or if it doesn't have one or it doesn't work, by pulling the chip and flashing it with an external programmer…

Thanks bro, this is very reassuring. from the paper JV series can operate at higher voltage + faster read speed The motherboard currently using 8-PIN WSON type, but it provide 8-PIN SOP too like in the picture, I wonder if that's meant to be able to use another chip type.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I can reprogram the chip using CH341A, and yes I intend to keep using the same chip, but if, if the chip's gone bad after desolderin, I wonder if I can use another chip type as an alternative (and 8-PIN SOP type so convenient to reprogram without desoldering).

I'm pretty anxious about my soldering skill, plus on the paper written storage max temp 150°C, how about BIOS dump I just reprogram inside? Will it be corrupted after high temp exposure?

Sorry guys I'm new on this so please be patience with me

You won't damage the chip by desoldering/soldering it back. You have more chances of damaging the board, but this isn't a difficult operation as long as it's not the first time you solder on a board.
You absolutely need an hot air station anyway to desolder a WSON8 chip (they have a center pad).

Update!!! Hello guys !!! Finally I'm done repairing my Laptop!

After long thought in the end I'm using W25Q128FVSG chip because it's easier to reprogram without desoldering first.

At first I thought I can use bios file extracted from HP BIOS updater and it's a mistake (dumb me ), my laptop won't turn on. The LED keep blinking white and yellow nonstop (I guess the soldering wasn't good, but it was good).

So I made a new thread:
            https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=75730
asking for BIOS file and thank God there's someone able to repair my failed old BIOS dump from the old chip. I reprogram the chip and success in first try

              Greetings badcaps community,

I havent done this for a long time and want to start it all again, after some evil and annyoing illness.
So I apologize in advance, if some phrases might sound a bit like gibberish or illogical to you.

Im trying my best to fully describe what I plan to achieve and hope I was choosing the right sub-forum for my new adventure.

              I have a Elitebook 820 G1 and a Elitebook 840 G2 here.

These ask for a password when entering the BIOS, but boot just fine from the internal SSD.

              I learned that desoldering...

              by szogun
              Greetings,
I`ve HP Elitebook x360 1030 G3 with BIOS update problem. Update downloaded and initiated by Windows 11, but after reboot it stuck on white screen"System BIOS update. Final step of BIOS update is in progress" etc
Fans speed goes up, and after few second notebook reboots and everything starts again.
I`ve tried with USB rescue disk, Win+B, Win+V etc - nothing helped.
Is there any other bios crisis/rescue procedure that can revive my notebook?

Update bios EFCN58WW to EFCN59WW for solving The Connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended AC adapter

              I have a Lenovo Legion 5 15imh05a device that I bought used online. It came with a 20V 8.5A 170W charger.

              The BIOS version is EFCN58WW.

When I turn on the device, it displays the message:
"The Connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended AC adapter..."

The device rarely charges the battery, and even when it does, it doesn't show that it's charging.

HP Pavilion 15 bc400ns - Complete Black Screen - Only video on live usb
              by iZakre
              Hello everybody!

To put you in context I recently replaced the battery from my HP Pavilion 15 bc400ns with a used one, everything was going good. The same day, I decided to update the BIOS, everything went good. The thing occurred after I let the battery drain iddling on Windows 11 for the second time to calibrate it that the screen did not turn on again, the computer was on but the screen did not turn, like it would not wake from hibernation. I decided to restart the computer but got no video.

The thing is that I had installed TeamViewer and could log into the computer...
