    HP Pavilion G6 Battery Problem

    Dear Technicians,

This laptop has a battery made in 2011. If I connect only the battery without the AC adapter, The laptop works fine sometimes for an hour. But in another day, the laptop restarts sometimes by itself using only the battery.
Sometimes, the laptop does not start up. I measured voltages at that times and discovered cpu_core is not present but 1.05v_vtt and the DDR voltage are present. when this happens, I can not start the laptop using the AC adapter too for about 30 minutes.

note: This laptop works fine with AC adapter without the battery. The laptop charges the battery very well.
note: nothing gets hot on the mainboard.

    my questions:
is the battery faulty or is the mainboard faulty?
what component do you think is faulty?
If I buy a new healthy battery, Do you think this restarting will happen again?

    Thanks

Re: HP Pavilion G6 Battery Problem

When you can't start the laptop for 30 minutes, is that with the battery still connected also? Or that is true even if you remove the battery and only have the AC adapter connected?

If it doesn't turn on, even after disconnecting the battery, then it's a little harder to understand what is going on. In that case, it's not impossible for there to be a problem with a component on the motherboard.

But all the other symptoms can easily be explained by an aging battery. As batteries get worn out, their capacity decreases and their internal resistance increases. This can cause voltage sags and higher temperatures when under heavy load. And it's possible for that to lead to system instability.

Flash the BIOS and install a new battery. For the interrupted power supply from battery V+/B+/+DCBATOUT signal may flicker or make some ripple there. By this means BIOS may stop its function by itself to save the module.

Re: HP Pavilion G6 Battery Problem

When the laptop starts acting faulty, it does not matter if using battery or AC adapter or remove battery or keep the battery in the laptop. It stays faulty for about 30 minutes.
Do you think this 30 minute duration is due to some faulty component on the mainboard or it is a normal operation of the mainboard's protection circuit?

I discovered this faulty action appears rarely. So, testing it is not possible anymore.
It is two days that I am testing the laptop in various cases of using the battery and the AC adapter, and no fault or restarting happened yet. The laptop is working fine in these two days under Win7.
The battery holds the charge for about an hour. Two days ago, the fault happened when the charge level was about 70%.
Since the PCH has no heatsink, its temperature stays about 50'C but it does not go higher.
I hope the fault appear again so that I can test the mainboard at that time.

Re: HP Pavilion G6 Battery Problem

There are reasons why the board might intentionally turn off or stay off. The problem is the 30 minute duration. The length of time is hard to explain. And also the fact that it continues to refuse to turn on even after removing the battery. Even an overheating situation should resolve itself after a fraction of that time.

I can't rule out the possibility of a bad component near the charging IC (the only area that functions differently while on battery power). But we know the battery is getting rather old, and that the problem occurs while it is running off battery power. So it may be best to get a new battery installed before jumping to any conclusions.

On the other hand... if the problem occurs only rarely, then it might just be luck that it was on battery power those other times. So it's also a good idea to test it very thoroughly on AC power with the battery not installed. If you can get it to misbehave like that then you know it's a motherboard issue. And you'll also know not to waste money on a new battery.

Re: HP Pavilion G6 Battery Problem

I have tested this laptop for three days. no fault appeared yet except the following one:
when I close the laptop if it is on, it goes to sleep. then when I press the power button, the fan spins but there is no display and Capslock starts flashing continuously as one flash per 2 seconds. then, I has to remove the battery. then if I press the power button, the laptop turns on fine into windows, but it displays a white screen in the beginning instead of the HP and the Windows Starting Logos. Then, win7 works normally. But I discovered PCH has a working temperature about 60'C whereas it was always about 50'C previously and never went higher.
It seems the above problem happens both using the battery and the AC adapter.
In the next restarts, the laptop works fine and displays the starting logos properly. But It takes about an hour til the PCH working temperature reaches about 50'C again. for example, I turned the laptop on 10 minutes after the described fault, then I discovered the PCH's starting temperature was 43'C but it reached 55'C as its working temperature.

              Have anyone experienced this before?
What do you think is the problem on the mainboard?
Do you think the mainboard and the PCH are healthy and I should just avoid the sleeping mode?

I searched the net. I heard the problem is due to the switchable graphics. So I am trying new graphics drivers for this laptop.
But I do not know why the PCH temperature stays high even after restarting and even after 10 minutes of being off.

I suspect the CPU heatsink on HPs. (Even more so on CQ 61s from 2009 with an Athlon II CPU) Especially if you get a random-occurring BSOD error from Windows, and sometimes just a random shutdown, when not using a cooling pad underneath!

CPU and GPU temperature are really cool and there is no BSOD. Only PCH temperature goes about 60'C sometime, because of something which I do not know. PCH has no heatsink.
probably I should install a heatsink on PCH.

I have acer laptop tmx314-51 with part no 6050A3020501.
The laptop is working fine on adapter and battery is also charging and when adapter is disconnected in on state the laptop gives backup on battery and gives good backup.
But when laptop is powered on through battery only the laptop does not power on and there is 0 voltage on battery connector.
I have not not tried another battery as it is not available locally could this be a battery problem.have checked discharging mosfet and there is no shorting to ground on any pin of battery connector.
                      The schematic is not available...

Strange! Acer laptop not powering on but charging the battery (orange light on when charger and battery plugged in).

                      Hello Everyone!

I have an Acer Aspire A315-42 laptop. I generally leave it on for long time by closing down its lid (so it enters the sleep mode). Recently, it rained quite heavily in out area. And the humidity and moisture seem to be high. So one late evening, after I opened the lid and turned on the laptop, it did power on as the blue light turned on but after it booted to the desktop screen, just 5-10 seconds after both the screen and blue light went out and laptop shut down (the blue power light turned orange). And after 2-4 seconds that orange light went off and the laptop died.

configurable for operating as either a Hybrid Power Boost (HPB)

recently i was gifted a dell inspiron 5567 for wiping the data on the hard drive. (yay me). however i already have a computer that i use, so i have no need for this computer. this computer wasn't without its problems though.

                      1. i had to purchase an adapter to retrofit my older style dell laptop battery cable. (not too expensive) ~= 10 bucks for a 2 pack via amz.

                      2. after that i had to find a spare cr2032 (easily found in my parts bin) and assemble a makeshift cmos battery thanks to some copper foil tape and some heat shrink tubing.

                      got the computer...
