Gateway MS2285 - turns on no post or video but will post video occasionally

Gateway MS2285 - turns on no post or video but will post video occasionally

It booted 2 times out of 30 trys and froze before completely booted.
Not memory or any devices attached have removed and tested all.
Hard drive is good, ram is good, wireless is good.
I am sure it is motherboard related so i wanted to try and run this one down for the experience of learning. Does anyone know where I can find a schematic for this MB please....
If you have seen this on this model please enlighten me....
    Thanks

Most likely dead RS880M northbridge. Try to rehot/reflow it and see if it works. It will not last though, it'll need to be replaced.

    Schematics attached anyway.

Thank you very much my friend.

You are confirming my thought.. Can the RS880M be purchased or my thoughts are is this one even worth the effort.

Dunno, check the actual part number (216-something) on the chip. Not really worth it but it's better to fix it if possible than throw it in the trash. But first try to reflow it and hope it'll last.

Reflow the NB and improve its cooling, if possible, as that is the #1 reason these go bad (too much heat). If it shares the same heatsink as the CPU, then crank up the CPU fan and make sure the CPU heatsink is absolutely clean. You may also need to make a copper shim for the NB if it is coupled to the CPU heatsink with a thick silicone pad (those things are not very good at transferring heat).

Yeah i've done that before.. think i'll give it a try nothing but time to lose.
I've got plenty of scraps to make shims out of so lets see what happens..
