    R36G Y208 Components on the 820-256-A board

    Hi,

There are 2 components on my Macbook A1278 (820-256-A board).
    What are they? Inductors?

I tried Google but I can't find any info/datasheet for them.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks.

    Did you mean 820-2530?
Yes, they are inductors for CPU VCore. R36 means that they are 0.36µH. If you've got any with your board, they're not the cause (most likely).

      It says:

      Apple (c) 2009
      820-2565-A

Do you think the printing is wrong?
Where do I find the correct board number?

      Thanks.

Btw, the continuity tests on the inductors are beeping on my meter. Does this mean the inductors are OK?

OK. I found the correct board number.

An inductor should show a very low resistance on the multimeter, so if it beeps in continuity mode it should be ok. It could still be shorted internally though.
However, they very rarely fail especially in this section, and if they do, another component failed and caused them to die: in the CPU VCore area, if you find a failed inductor, it could be caused by a shorted high-side MOSFET and the CPU is most likely dead.
Altough I remember fixing a graphics card (GTX 285) with a failed high-side MOSFET for VCore which destroyed a coil, and the GPU was fine in the end. I was incredibly lucky there.
