Replacing LAPTOP CCFL with LED strip!

I have one laptop with dying CCFL. The image on the screen is regressing to pink color when I switch it on, every day - more and more.
I am wondering - could I replace the lamp with LED strip?
    The laptop is Lenovo X200.
The problem is that is very hard to find a CCFL for 12.1 WXGA screen.
Is there a place, where I can safely get 12volts inside the laptop? Or if not, will the backlight power work without the inverter itself. Because the power input of the inverter ir 20V. I have spare 12V led strip, that I used to repair two LCD monitors. But inside the monitor there is a way to easily get 12V from the PSU.
Useful conversions. I don't "speak" imperial. Please use metric, if you want to address me.

I think is not possible for many reason .
    correct positioning of LED stripe
need to have a driving circuit for the LEDs
    etc
however, it is not hard to find the backlight:

Yes it is possible to convert your CCFL backlight Monitor to LED backlight. Here is what you do.
        1. Identify the following on the original Inverter Bd:
        a. EN/BL-ON/SW
        b. Vadj/PWM/P-DIM/ADJ
        2.VCC=20Vdc
        3. GND
Then get from e-bay or other source the 2A DC-DC Step-up Module Bd. This Step-up Bd can take on Input 2-28Vdc and can Output Max 28Vdc. This adjustable. (You will need 24Vdc to supply the LED Driver Bd.)
Then get from e-bay or other source a Universal LED Driver Bd. Select the correct module as there are several. Depending on the size of your screen you may need a small module to drive two (2) rows of LEDs.
You would have to remove the CCFL completely and disable the power to the Inverter section, to prevent wastage of power.

It's hard to find in the local shops only with order with 1-2 weeks waiting time... I don't want to order, because there is a good chance that I will receive a bag, full of glass pieces.
I don't really need a dimming. I always run my back light on full power.

I thought so? I don't want to replace CCFL every year. And it's hard to get one, because no one wants to send it thru courier, because it's extremely fragile.

Re: Replacing LAPTOP CCFL with LED strip!

i bought about 10 of cclf and they all come ok. only big big problem is that original ccfl have very small rubber rings around it that prevent from vibration noise.so better thing is to cut them from previous ccfl and put in the new one

1 year a ccfl? those ive changed are working from years...

its different, if in your country u have problems in getting them, or they are not that cheap.

I already did this on LCD monitors and TV's. I am just wondering how to do it on laptops. On the monitors and other bigger displays it's easy. There is always a 12V, so I can hook the led stripe to the 12V. On a laptops it's a whole different story. I have 4 CCFL-s...but they are all for 14 and 15 inch displays...

Re: Replacing LAPTOP CCFL with LED strip!

with a simple circuit you can drive the LEDs with any voltage, what is important is the amperage.
There is no simple solution, you have to make an outline and know a bit of electronics theory.
There is no difference between large or small screen in the theory

I have enough knowledge to make a circuit with LM7512. But I gave up the idea to install led stripe. There is a difference between big and small screen. There is not enough place inside the laptop lcd matrix. The lamp is so close to the reflector, so there is just not enough space to install LED stripe.
With the stripe I have, I've repaired one Sony LCD display - 17". The same problem - dead CCFL lamps and even burned invertor. I've removed the invertor and the CCFL on the bottom side, there was enough space to install led stripe. So now I am using this monitor...I've also ordered a new CCFL. Monday will be here.
The biggest problem is that there is just not enough space inside the laptop 12.1" LCD matrix assembly. So, I have only one option - new CCFL.

Re: Replacing LAPTOP CCFL with LED strip!

Search for 12.1 LED backlight LCD laptop, damaged, brocken = cheaper.
Must be same shape like yours one.
Disassembly both of them, replace only screen glass.
Take your glass only display and mount on frame with led backlight and dispersor or difusser.

On original led backlight display,on most of them there is controller for LED's on his PCB.
Since display is already brocken identify that part on PCB,cut it away so you can use it on new build display.
Wire for CCFL inverter must be routed to this part of PCB to light up LED's.

It's not a wire, it's a ribbon cable with proprietary connector.
