    Lenovo G50-45 constant reboot

    Hi,
So I have this laptop that for no reason reboots when loads the OS. However, it stays on if I leave it in bios. I tried 3 different rams while running 3 different versions of memtest(many reboots) and came to the conclusion that it cannot be the rams nor cpu overheating cause I cleaned the fan(which was clean anyway).

The board is an NM-A281 and it went out of warrant like weeks ago.
I measured what I could on the board and everything seems to be okay.
Dont want to risk to update bios in fear of reboot.

Anyone familiar with thie behavior and this laptop model?

This seems a classic problem since Windows 98.
It may be the graphics chip.
had you updated the graphics driver before this problem happened?
had you installed a new OS before this problem happened?

The laptop reboots simply by running the memtest.

Load the OS in safe mode and check what error message it gives.

Actually I dont even get BSOD. Will have to check tomorrow if its set to automaticly reboot on such event. Will be back.

I disabled the option to reboot automaticly if something occured but even so no BSOD, just plain reboot.

Load the OS in safe mode and tell us at which stage of the OS loading, it reboots.

Loaded the OS, it stayed on until I shut it down.

                  Re: Lenovo G50-45 constant reboot

So, the laptop has no reboot in safe mode.
Thus, a hardware or software component causes the reboot which is not loaded in the safe mode.

Looks like it reboots while in safe mode too.

                      Re: Lenovo G50-45 constant reboot

                      So this gets more difficult.
there is a CD in the Internet called Ultimate Boot CD.
Boot the laptop using this CD and test different parts of the laptop using the software tools in this CD.
Then, you may find the part of the laptop that causes rebooting.

Graphic cards error symptoms appear after one year and a half at least and rarely before that , so it Could be CPU heating from a dirty fan , or a virus like Catharina or any other malware . A wrongly updated driver can do this too , as well as resetting Rams .
I would start anyway by re-installing the system .

The system reboots while running simple memtest otherwise I would have reinstaled the OS. The laptop doesnt have dedicated vga, only what the CPU provides.

I assume you tried also to remove a probable defective battery , tried booting a linux ? , if so then the Bios is next ..

I've run the memtest with removed harddrive and got many reboots.

Did this laptop by any chance , had a strong blow or was dropped ? , I had one or two strange cases like this , and it turn out the Bios battery was detached from one solder point , in the second one , i had to resolder the battery , which fixed also some random errors behaviour .

By the looks of it nothing of the sort has happened but I will ask the client.
