    Jovy RE-8500 issue

    Anyone using Jovy RE-8500?

I am having issues with soldering GPU and southbridge BGA chips.

My machine is killing the chips. After soldering the chips to the PCB, either the laptop does not switch on or else the GPU will get very hot, sometimes more than 100°C.

I also had instances where the laptop works for one week and the it comes back and I find out that the chips is dead.

Has anyone ever experience this issue?

    Thanks

    Re: Jovy RE-8500 issue

Think I found what's causing the issue. Part of the top ceramic heater is not working.

Anyone has a Jovy RE-8500 so that we can compare this?

    Thanks

      Re: Jovy RE-8500 issue

how long do you keep a chip above 200'C during reflowing or reballing?
the issues may be due to a long heating duration.

I have attached photos of actual profile being used and the top heater with 'cold' spots.

I think the heater is faulty.

Since the heater seems faulty, the machine's profile is not trusted.
you have to measure chip's temperature using a thermocouple to see if the profile is applied correctly by the machine.
also, measure how long the machine keeps a chip above 200'C.

AS pcb's are muliti layer some will heat at diffrent temperture so i would use at least 2 thermocouples to monitor the temperture until i find the correct profile for a particular pcb.

Did you checked the input power ? Don't use it on low voltage. Because if you are using on low power it is not controlling the temperature according to displaying temperature. I also had the same issue, thereafter it cannot recovered Numbers of the components ( IC's and Transistors ) was erased by Manufacturer purposely. I bought a new one but different manufacturer.

u made that picture? if so top heater is too hot and is going to kill and burn every chip.

At one point I even used three thermocouples touching the IC under rework.

The temperatures were different between these 3 thermocouples, that's why I am suspecting the heater is faulty. It is showing uneven heating.

Which input power? Of the machine or the heater itself?

You had the same issue? You mean, the BGA were dying?

What did you buy from a different manufacturer? A new BGA machine?

                    Thanks

Hello dellxps15, are you from Italy? We're neighbours then

Yes, I took the picture of that heater which is the upper element of the Jovy RE-8500. I put it in full power on purpose to that I can take a picture and show the 'fault'.

When the machine is operated, a reflector with a square hole would be be fitted over the ceramic heater so that the infra-red beam would be focused on the device under rework only.

By the way, the curve shows the whole process which is 10 minutes long and Do you think that in terms of maximum temperature values, temp rising and falling speeds, I am on the right track?

                      Thanks

i have infrared too and with a 40 seconds of preheat at 120° whole process for desolder a lad free bga is around 6minutes and 50 seconds.

ofcourse it depend on the pcb. some pcb desolder exactly at 217° while others at 228-230° celsius.

my top height from bga is about 4-5 cm and power is around 70% max.

heaters have not to become that red, otherwise ull damage pcb.

good thing is put always good flux (not fake) under bga to make whole area temperature more stable.

                        edit: yes im from italy.

ps: dont use reflector. cover around bga with kapton and alluminium.

For me i have used jovy 7500 after 2years and its burn sometimes the chip but from 2 years i use ZM-R6200 and its air heater only the preheat its with irda and is amazing perfect soldering precision 100%.
I suggest air heater its best from irda.

                                Thanks for the information.

So your profile takes about 7 minutes to desolder a chip. Well, mine takes around 4 to 5 minutes to do that. Maybe this is too fast.

How about soldering a new chip? How long does it take to reach the peak?

I am using original Amtech NC-559-V2 flux (€20/10cc).

BTW, What is the brand and model of your machine?

                                Thanks

I have three identical-spec 820-01700 boards (2.6/32/512), and ALL THREE boards came to us with the same fault, from different sources: The boards don't wake from hibernation with the keyboard or lid, they ONLY wake when you press the power button. I understand this is a very minor issue, but the boards must be fixed!

We will of course begin with the obvious (checking lid signals), but I couldn't help but notice these three boards were all 32GB variants. Has anyone noticed an issue relating to these 32GB boards in particular? I of course don't think it's a RAM issue, but it's bizarre...

                                      Hi,
I kindly ask for help with Thinkpad BIOS/ME repair.
Thinkpad W541 board bought from Aliexpress, so I have no service tag nor S/N. It is 1GB version Q1 (K1100 nVidia GPU). BIOS 2.23, EC 1.13, ME 9.1.32.1002.
It worked fine until I tried to remove whitelist.

                                      Steps taken:
                                      - battery out, CMOS coin cell out, laptop disassembled; I kept LAN/USB subboard connected
                                      - i took SPI programmer (CH341A with 3.3V mod) and SOIC clip and did a full backup of all SPI flash chips (SPI1 and SPI2 - BIOS, EC, ME, GbE; SPI3 - video BIOS; SPI4 - Thunderbolt fw) for several...

Alienware 15 R2 Service Tag: DL7NN32 ISSUE (Battery is not charging)
                                      by Simone Vergani
                                      Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with my Alienware 15 R2 (Service Tag: DL7NN32). The laptop works perfectly when connected to the AC adapter — it powers on and functions normally. However, the battery does not charge. If I disconnect the DC adapter, the laptop shuts down immediately, as the battery is at 0%. I have replaced the battery with a new compatible one, but the issue persists. I also replaced the AC adapter with a compatible one, but the battery still doesn't charge.

To assist with troubleshooting, I'm attaching two power circuit schematics:
