Have a Quanta Z09 board from an Acer that suddenly wouldn't start after sitting on my bench for a week. I have 19V to the chip (PU1, pin 16) but nothing out (I need 3.3v out of pin 8 and 5v out of pin 17, correct)? I removed the chip and pins 14 and 15 on the board are short to ground (15 is in fact a ground pin). Is it a bad chip or is pin 14 being short messing up the works?

Re: 19V to 3.3,5v regulator, nothing out
Was bad chip, replaced, now have 3.3 and 5v back. Have power to KBC. Have 3v at power button and it drops to 0 when I short it but no 3v at rsmrst pin on KBC. Chip change?Comment

Anybody? Is there anything else I can check to confirm whether it's the KBC or not?Comment

Re: 19V to 3.3,5v regulator, nothing out
I think it worked. When I pushed the start button on the daughter card the blue light came on but before the fan started to spin the audio chip on the daughter card blew. I would start the board manually but I'm not sure which pins to short on cn13 (p. 19).Comment

Board starts just fine with daughter card with audio chip removedComment

Re: 19V to 3.3,5v regulator, nothing out
Success was short lived, board cut off while running for a few minutes. Didn't short out, still have 3.3 and 5 volts at regulator but not at coils or voltage at KBC. Have no idea what to do next...Comment

Re: 19V to 3.3,5v regulator, nothing out
I see what you mean.
The VREG5 and VREG3 supplies are the IC's internal 5V and 3.3V linear regulators whereas the +3VPCU and +5VPCU supplies are generated by the IC's SMPS PWM Buck Controllers. Both enable pins (EN and ENC) are active, so all four supplies should be running. However, it appears that only the linear regulators are working.
Are there any short circuits on the 3VPCU or 5VPCU supplies?

Re: 19V to 3.3,5v regulator, nothing out
I changed the 3.3,5v regulator chip and now the board powers again. Maybe it's something I'm doing wrong. When the board died I had put it in the laptop shell because I wanted to connect and use the keyboard. But I didn't secure the board in the bottom case with screws and therefore the board wasn't grounded?Comment

by acedogblastThis is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.
There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as... -

by mferna14Hi all., I am working an ASUS TP412F., motherboard Model TP412FAC R: 2.0. The problem I am facing is the 3.3 buck converter (L8=7J RT6256BGQUF) gets very hot when 19v is applied through DC-in jack. I don't think Schematics or Boardview is availble for this model. The chip get so hot that I can't even take the voltages of the pins. I replaced the chip but the problem is still there, new chip even gets very hot. The input on pin 5, 19v is present. So I removed the Output coil & the chip & checked the voltages on the chip pads which are as below: Please view if any volts seem to be abnormal....

Long story short:
- dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
- gave the computer to his son a couple years later
- son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
- too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)
He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8... -
