HP Elitebook 8560p pw need help pls.

    Hi Guys,

I have a Elitebook 8560p with a power-on pw, This means that every solution via USB/Dos startup is not possible. The screen pops up at startup, even before Post.
Tried also the update methode from Mazzif, that worked, but pw still there.
His other methode via Dos program cannot be executed.
I contacted HP and they send me a SMC.bin to clear the pw. But that failed also.
I think because the time and date are not current, which is the onliest criteria I could not meet, because I can't get to the bios. The RTC battery has been disconnected so the system will be out of date. I was hoping there would be a possibility to get to that setting.
Now, the onliest solution lies in changing the bios chip, it is one chip, probably with built in extra's. (Winbond 25Q64CVSIG). When you buy a preprogrammed chip, will this power-up pw also be gone or is that a separate TPM section.?
I would like a second opinion on this matter and maybe there is an other solution
to this problem without changing the chip?

Have you tried looking for the 8560p service and reference manual. Usually has pretty good info about clearing passwords for the bios.

Bios chip replacement is probably your best solution.
I've recently replaced a BIOS chip for HP Elitebook 2740P that was purchased from school and both school or the student do not know or remember the BIOS password. Luckily, no soldering was required on 2740P model, BIOS chip is held down with a clip.

Service and reference manual does not have anything on the topic.

I'm looking at that as last resource. My chip is soldered.

If you cannot desolder the chip, then you may have to replace the system board. Luckily, my old 6910p was easy to reset the bios password. The instructions were in the
service manual. My Panasonic Toughbook CF-52 would have the same problem as you have if I had to reset the bios. I would have to send the whole computer back to Panasonic to have it done. Costs about $200.00.

I prefer to solder the chip against filling the pockets of the big guys again. They always talk so easy about exchanging mobo's as if you are buying a sandwich.
But before I start I want to be sure there is no alternative.

i try once to read with the chip onboard and stop the adapter.

its like it try to power the other board from the bios programmer through the USB.

one thing tough i did not try is to give voltage to the board that got the bios chip that i want to read.
Just cook it! It's already broken.

To stay cost effective I better buy a chip for 20,00 USD
That's better than start all that trouble with learning programming and buying equipment.

Thank you guys for your reactions.

Got the bios chip from Ebay and it seemed to work OK.

After a while installing windows 8.1 it looked slow in start en restart.
I tried to flash the latest bios which I was not sure it succeeded, so I did it a second time.
The recovery I did with Mazzif way to force update. USB stick and keep Windowskey and B key pressed and push the power button.
Now the system stays in this modus and don't do anything than blinking caps lock and fan at high speed.
Anybody can help how to get out of this?

Re: HP Elitebook 8560p pw need help pls.

                          Hi Guys,
I finally got something done on this mobo.
First I ordered a bios chip and soldered it in, but the bios chip was not proper programmed so it had to come out again and a new one had to be placed.
That cost me the islands and traces around the chip. Soldering 4 times was to much of heat for the PCB and I am not that quick.
On the picture you can see the final repair, don't laugh, it cost me enough but it seems to work.
Now I have a next problem, I programmed the chip with a CH341a and everything looked OK, but the system don't work. It switches on, all led's light up and than it switched off right away. Than it keeps on trying every 5 seconds
but no image or anything., The fan jumps on and off at the same time.
So he wants to work. Tried to reflash bios with windowskey-B, but no luck.
                          Schematics are not available.
Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Got the mobo working for a minute on an external vga. Distorted picture with colored vertical bars. But you can see the bios and open it and he is starting Windows.
On the displayport to hdmi I get nothing.,
After a while bios froze and nothing no more on the vga

                            any ideas?

I got a little more out of the system.
At start up I get the screen with the blue bars.
When he continues, I get the all color screen when windows 8.1 is loaded.
This will hold about 10 seconds and than he restarts.
The message I get right at Post, but I can't read it.
                              Anyone knows this message?

I only get these screens on external monitor via VGA. On the displayport and the system screen I get nothing.

Can this be extensional problems what is coursed by the BIOS?

                              Pls help me

Board is disassembled with the cooling assy and fan on it, so it is not too hot.
Unlucky me, the vga video has stopped also/

I bought a second laptop from which the display is broken and the mobo suppose to be ok. This was not the case, mobo is dead.
I found chip U2901 (CL=DL M25) getting very hot and in different area's, you measure a short at the small capacitors and on chip U13(JMB700) you measure
a lot of pins short to gnd. more than the first board.
There are no schematics available, so I only cab compare with board 1.

                                  Idea's are welcome
