Issues after maintenance of Asus ROG G53SW

    Hello!

    I'm the happy owner of a G53SW, it's a beast but I love it!
He's out of warranty for about 6 month's , and I noticed that the fans were spinning full often and the air exhausted was extremely hot, so time to clean it and change thermal paste! I don't want him to die

So I carefully started disassembling it , it's not very easy but its neither too difficult.
Reached mobo, removed it and removed coolers from GPU and CPU.
The GPU has a lot of thermal adhesive and a "gooey" compound.
Just cleaned the die and applied a Coolermaster thermal compound.
Did the same on the CPU. Assembled it carefully, and turned it on.
Posted ok , entered OS ok. Rebooted, entered OS , and first issue!
The screen appeared full of red artifacts! Turned it off right away, checked connections etc all were ok. Turned it on again and had some trouble entering OS. Artifacts again. Started to get worried.
Didn't took photos at that moment, but first picture attached is very similar of what I had.

Well, I removed the board again and here I am. I don't think anything was damaged, checked everything carefully and I don't see any problem.

Maybe the thermal I applied on the die wasn't good and chip overheated?
Here are some photos of the coolers and board.
What thermal compound do you guys recommend applying here?
Should I remove all the "gooey" stuff and apply some new adhesive or other thermal stuff I never used before?

I would love to get the guy back 100%

What could be causing these issues? I'm getting mad!

Waiting for some feedback of the gurus before reassemble it and test it again!

    Cheers!

clean off excess thermal compound. should only be applied on top of the chips.

i wonder why the red stuff is only in the background?!# looks like a wall paper to me.

      Hello!

Well, maybe that's not the best picture to give the example.
Maybe this one gives a better idea, but in my case it was red artifacting and not yellow like in the photo attached.

So I should clean the GPU and the memory chips right?
What should I apply on the CPU and memory chips? Could I use thermal adhesive like the one used in the coils?

When I get this done, I will assemble it , test it and if I get same issues I will take photos .

      Thanks!

I will order the thermal compound from a local store, so I will get it in a few days!
I will order also those pads, but they will take 3 weeks to arrive.
So I'll use the MX4 and normal silicone pads this time.

Need to see if I still get any GPU issues.

And to clean that mess on the memory chips? Isoprop. Alcohol?

          Thanks again!

Yes, you can use IPA to clean the chips.

I am no guru by any means, but looking at those pictures there seems to be a great excess of paste on those memory chips, why hasn't the paste been squeezed out to the sides? could the reason be that the cooling plate was not seated down properly when you fitted it, or is there an intended gap between plate and memory so that cooling pads should be there, just a thought

                  Hello!

It came like this from Asus! I also thought it looked messy and not great ...
For what I noticed, the cooler sitted well.

Yes, the cable was seated correctly. In post and before OS, there were no artifacts.
                  Just when in OS.

Waiting for the MX4 and pads to clean the mess and put it in his place.
And test the beast of course.

                  Pics and update will follow

                  Thanks All!

                    by bseinfo
                    Hi everyone,

I have a Brother MFC-J480DW printer stuck in maintenance mode (BHL2 USB Maintenance). The screen only shows white bars, and it’s completely unresponsive. The official Firmware Update Tool doesn’t detect it, and I’ve tried multiple versions.

I’m looking for the raw firmware file LZ5313_L.blf (or .djf), compatible with FILEDG32.exe, so I can attempt a manual recovery.

If anyone has a full dump of this model (or a compatible one like MFC-J485DW or J885DW), or knows a private Discord or Telegram group where this kind of firmware is shared,...

Hi, trying to troubleshoot some problems with this laptop I just finished repairing which had power issues (Burnt Buck converter - SY8883DFC shorted to ground).

After repairing the above issue, I realized the following remaining problem,
Sound only comes from bottom speakers, top palmrest speakers don't work. Neither does the headphone jack (static/buzzing).
The computer recognizes headphones are connected and displays a popup in windows
Sometimes, the computer will boot up and the sound will be working fine. However, if I run intensive programs and the computer...

Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH - Ideapad 3 well known solder joint issues
                    by Nagyesz
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH, which has started exhibiting the well-known issues of the Lenovo IdeaPad 3.

All stress tests run perfectly, and there are no performance issues. However, the solder joints are almost certainly starting to fail. If the top two screws on the back are not screwed in, moving the screen results in a BSOD or, in some cases, a slight artifact and freeze. This is a 2023 notebook..

How can I extend its lifespan? Could reflow help?

It has ryzen 5 5500h, rtx 2050, no soldered ram.

                    Example of the artifacts:

Asus Rog strix g15 g513ih hn0865 and it's having display issues while running on igpu
                    by Skgod
Hey I am having Asus Rog strix g15 g513ih hn0865 and it's having display issues while running on igpu. Works fine when I open any game or whatsapp windows application. The issues are :
                    Black screen, freeze
The weird thing is that when as long as the laptop is running on igpu the problem keeps happening. But as soon as I open any game or whatsapp windows application, the laptop works completely fine.
When the screen freeze or black screen I used to move the display lid up and down and it usually works like that.
So can anyone tell me what would be the possible cause?...
