ASUS K53S i7, power/charge light, nothing else. No power down

Client has bought to me an ASUS K53S i7 laptop.

Basically, regardless of what power source ( bat / AC ) you use, all that happens is that the power light comes on when you press the button, and nothing else.

The fan doesn't come on.

I've stripped the mainboard completely out so that the only thing it has is a fresh known working memory module installed, a screen via HD15/VGA, power and of course the power switch.

The CPU and GPU do not warm up at all.

Holding down the power button does not shut the power down.

when you press power button and it does NOT shutdown that means the SIO chip its not working.
take the battery bios out discharge the board and try to plug the plug back see what happens.

be prepare to swap the KBC chip

Good morning dj_ricoh,

I've had the CMOS/BIOS battery out for several hours. Is there another specific reset/short/discharge point on the board that I should be using as well?

Trying to find the schem as well, as I'm not exactly sure where to find the SIO chip at this point.

Found the SIO chip, now to see what I can find out... I see I can get replacement units on eBay cheap enough; though of course it'd be nice to work out if it is the SIO chip, or something else elsewhere causing it to misbehave.
