MacBook A1990 vertical stripes on external screen

    Hey everyone,

I bought a MacBook A1990 with no screen. I bought it knowing the motherboard was defective but wasn't sure what the problem was until I received it. It actually turns on but as you see from the attachment, it has vertical stripes, on an external screen!!

The board is neat. Not opened before for sure. Just a little dust, nothing more.

Recovery using wifi can be opened, as can also be seen in the photo but it doesn't go all the way through after connecting it to a wifi. It downloads the initial Recovery files but never completes the rest of the operation to open the macos recovery environment. After a while, it becomes unresponsive and turns the screen off.

Fried GPU in your opinion or is this a known issue that can be fixed?

Any change in behavior with safe boot? I imagine now, but just in case. Most likely GPU or VRAM yes. Run MEMTEST also just in case.

Thanks for the suggestion ugamazing. Since no OS is installed, I can't use safe boot. I ran apple diagnostics and got VFD001 error which most probably is because no internal screen is present.

One other weird behavior I've noticed is when I plug any bootable usb drives, the drive doesn't appear in the boot options! Sometimes connecting and disconnecting the usb shows and hides the Internet Recovery option in the boot menu! The real bootable disk doesn't appear!

I have performed a DFU revive just in case with no change.

        MacBook Pro 2018 - A1990 Dead - not charging - only 5V
        by robka
        Hi,

        my MacBook Pro 15" 2018 Touch Bar (A1990) doesn't charge anymore. Board# 820-01041-A

I'm not experienced in diagnostics, but I want to try to solve the problem with your help, because every local shop charges around 600€ (650 usd). Which is the value of the whole Macbook.

The Macbook was charging when suddenly the "charging sound" appeared every other second for around 4-5 times.
After that the Macbook was dead. It isn't charging anymore.

The USB-C Port where the charger was plugged is burned. Also The Cable and the...

        Hisense H55U7B vertical stripes
        by halen
        Hi all,

I have Hisense H55U7B TV with no picture, only big vertical stripes. I did several tests and I'm not sure, where is problem.

        1. Connected tcon to 12V, white, red, green, blue, black picture visible in cycle on full LCD without error
        2. Connected only left side of LCD to tcon, big stripes
        3. Connected only right side of tcon, visible normal picture on the right. Working as expected.

        Where could be problem?

        Main board RSAG7.820.8698/ROH

        Macbook Pro A1990 - 820-01041 Stuck at 5V / 0.02A
        by DATATECH85
        Hello,
I am currently working on a Macbook Pro A1990 (motherboard 820-01041) which is not charging.
The Macbook consumes 5V and 0.019A at USB-C. There seems to be a partial short-circuit on the PPBUS_G3H rail as I have 0V on this rail.

I've physically separated (by removing F7000 and F7001) PPBUS_G3H and the ISL9240 charging chip to see which side the short is coming from. Removing these fuses gives me 12.6V at the output of the ISL chip (PPVBAT_G3H_CHGR_REG).
However, I can't work out exactly why I don't have the PPBUS_G3H rail.

        Here are the values...

        A1990 MacBook no power help
        by Cameron Kajohn
I have a a1990 2018 15 inch MacBook Pro that will not power on.
I have replaced the pch bga chip because it was heating up under my thermal camera.
I have replaced the battery, and replaced the small ic between the gpu and cpu as it had a direct short to ground.

the MacBook now pulls 20v 2.4amps the trackpad clicks but it does not ever attempt to power on not even fan spin. After PCH replacement I was able to get it in dfu mode 1 time and restore bridge OS, but now the MacBook will no longer go into DFU mode.

I have also noticed L7030 gets extremely hot yet...
