Hi all, I hope someone can help me here as I'm about to find a corner to cry in. Basically, I purchased a laptop second hand from ebay and when it came there was a rattle inside the laptop. So I opened it up thinking I was going to find some broken plastic or a screw and instead a miscellaneous solid state surface mount capacitor fell out.
I decided to strip the laptop down to investigate where it has come from and it turns out there are a lot of places for capacitors on the board that are not being used so I am finding it near impossible to find out where this capacitor is from
Can anyone give me any tips in locating where it came from? I have one place that I think is a possible candidate (right next to the graphics card in between 2 others) but the solder there is rounded as apposed to flat where as I presumed it would have been flat where the capacitor was mounted?
I have searched for a picture online of the board and the issue is, there are a couple different types of board that have capacitors in the different locations (I presume it is to do with the region of the laptop).
The laptop does work without the capacitor but I'm not happy with using it as I'm sure it would cause other damage.
Can anyone help my strange predicament?
