    HP pavilion DV6

Hello folks, got this baby few day's ago.
Turned on but had no post, so I assumed that the GPU (as usual) is gone. I heated it for 20sec on 200C (with my hot air gun), and voila I had post.
After that I went to reball it, lifted etc... And bang now I get 1 sec turn on and turn's off.
Assuming that the reball screwed the GPU I see only to order a new one. What are your thoughts?

Hi rework don't work when gpu fails it a dead chip problem is the die of the chip it needs to be replaced. We use the heat test just to comfirm if it's bad and we had some cases it could run for up to three months but it never a fix problem is the chip from 2008 to 2009 mostly . Test temp should be 100c 200c is to high it will cause solder bridging causing short so lift chip and clean check resistance at main coils for CPU core you will see short gone then replace done and it will last be leave me doing these repairs a long time rework only works good on south bridge and north bridge on newer chips only

Well I wouldn't agree with you at all, specially on the part "rework only works good on SB and NB", as 90% nvidia won't fail on rework just won't last long.
Solder bridging can never happen with 20 sec even at 300C (of course I use heat test just to see will I get post, but frankly with these ATI's you are better of replacing them right away).
I also work longer time, but till now I didn't had 216-0728014 dyeing on me. All in all I'll order a new one later this weak and replace it.

First of all write exact model of DV6, it could be anything. Schematics would help.

DV6-1107el DAUT1AMB6D0 REV : D, true everything could happen. I am "globalizing" the problem to the GPU unit because the heat test showed me that when its heated its working. Taking that into account and that I only did a reball on it could mean that while reworking the GPU went bad.
But if you have any suggestion I am ready to try and fix this problem.

In most cases it's not a problem of GPU but NB, probably 215-0674034 here. Try reball or change and you"l see. First of all try to measure power for NB and GPU, possibly faulty MOSFET

Check this schematics, in this case could be problem with PQ41 or PQ42 (had some boards with similar problem before)

                    Re: HP pavilion DV6

Had 3 DV6 coming this year all with GPU problems, but will try also to reball the NB (or better change them both).
I'll check more deeply the MB after a short vacation on which I am currently .
But looking at these tools you think if I had them that I would be here on forums asking for help (mostly because you would be deep in the business and had a lot of exp) .
Lets get back to real life and my cheap multi meter :P.

I am in the same boat, sadly my budget isn't quite for that :P. Anyway is there any "cheap" solution like this?
