    A1989 - replace SSD

I have one A1989 that have not internal LCD (there was water damage on LCD connector) but macbook itself was working fine.
After some time it stoped working and starts in Recovery mode. When i try to restore in DFU it always fails with error : AMRestoreErrorDomain error 75 - Failed to handle message type StatusMsg (Missing data volume))

Is it possible to just swap SSD from some other macbook ? (or it have some dependecies ? A1989 only, some special possition from donor to correct possition on my macbook ? or i can take any SSD chips from any other macbook (with T2) and put it on all occupied slots ?

OK i found same motherboard a1989 and i have transfered all 4 ssd chips (to exactly same location)
Now when i connect a1989 to other macbook i'm able to restore it via apple configurator (it will finish with padlock in apple configurator)
but there is nothing on external screen (trackad is responding so T2 is alive) also nothing obvious is getting warm.

When i try to Revive it's also successfully done (it finish with padlock on apple configurator) but again there is nothing on external screen.

This macbook was working fine on external screen (as internal is burned common fault on a1989)

    any idea ?

      External screen still works?

Test the voltage to ground of IPD_LID_OPEN.

external screen was working as there was burned pin under CPU.
Now there is no output to external screen (i tried restore, revive in DFU mode) also Restore in Recovery mode was finished successfully, but still no output to external screen.
Also Capslock is not green if i press it, nothing on touch bar, only trackpad response.

In apple controller if i try right click on pad lock / quick look it shows booted but storrage it still Loading. (but i guess this shouldn't be problem as if there will be any problem with SSD chips restore, revive will not finish)

IPD_LID_OPEN - 1.8V power connected (battery connected, tested on J6701 (trackapd connector) - pin 1

Is it not possible that the macbook is in recovery screen and as it's touch bar i don't know how to switch screen to external (shortcut CMD + F1 is not possible here as touch bar haven't lid up during this first screen)
i tried to connect windows USB keyboard but i don't know the combination to switch screen.

does anyone know how to switch screen on touch bar macbook without internal screen.

MacBook Pro A1989 820-00850-A not powering on
              by ErinV
              Hey everyone!

I have a MacBook Pro A1989 with a 820-00850-A board that recently stopped working. I used it overnight to charge my phone, in the morning it didn't turn on, I assumed flat battery but now won't charge and doesn't start at all.

I have fully dissassembled it, when disconnected the battery reads at 0.012V. Even with the battery disconnected the laptop doesn't boot.

The diode voltages around all 4 CD3215's seem fine.

              For all CD3215 (UB300, UB400, U3100 and U3200) I read just above 5V on PP20V_USBC_TA_VBUS, 3.3V on PP3V3UPC_TA_LDO, 1.8V...

Macbook Pro A1989 - No image, working fine with external monitor
              by Madoy104
              Hi everyone,

I have a MacBook Pro A1989 that was likely exposed to liquid. It doesn't display an image on the built-in screen, but the screen is backlit (you can't see the Apple logo or any other elements when held up to light). The laptop provides 20V and 1.5-2A, and it works fine when I use it with an external monitor. Currently, the connector for the display (J8500) is disconnected. I'm writing to ask for help in diagnosing the issue. I've heard that when the J8500 is exposed to liquid, the processor pin responsible for the display might short-circuit, and I'd like to know...

              Macbook A1989, 820-00850, won't boot. 20V, 0A.
              by PITERPENY
Today I have a MacBook A1989 at work 820-00850. When assembled, the laptop switches to 20 volts but the consumption is 0.00 ampere. if the motherboard is on the table then the consumption of all ports is 5 volts and0.35 amperes and does not go to 20 volts only if you assemble a MacBook.
Here are some measurements, maybe someone can tell what the problem is.
The initial problem was a burnt out induction coil L8504 (replaced).
When connected to another MacBook, it constantly hangs in dfu and cannot install updates, something is wrong.
              here are some measurementsmotherboard...

MacBook Pro A1989 trackpad and keyboard not working
              by biosdi
              Hi guys.
I Just replaced battery on my MacBook Pro A1989. Unfortunately doing that, I’ve broken the trackpad flex cable (821-01701-a), and I’ve already ordered a spare one. At the same moment I’ve noticed that also the keyboard it’s not working anymore and I’ve found an SMD chip unsoldered and moving freely inside the backplate. I can read L20L on the chip. Is something could explain the keyboard not working or the keyboard doesn’t work due the unconnected trackpad?

              thanks...

              Macbook Pro 13" A1989
              by 247it
Hi all, I picked up a MacBook pro 13" with a A1989 mainboard, it suffered a little liquid damage around the CPU power section,
USB C switches to 20V 0.17 amps, this rises to .6 amps, stays that way for 30 seconds or more, then drops to 0 amps, 20V is maintained, fans spin at full speed for 1 second then the cycle starts over, CPU warms up slightly, mosfets U7210 heats to 38C and U7220 briefly heats and then goes cold at the start of the cycle,

Could anyone point me to some posts on what voltages to check and where / how to check for shorts and the places to often check?...
