Hello everyone, I've searched the forum but couldn't find a case with the exact same symptoms, so I'd appreciate some advice.
I'm working on a macbook pro late 2020 with the board 820-1949. The laptop came in with visible liquid damage and corrosion in various areas:
-speaker amp right side (C6483, C6455) - no shorts detected
-keyboard backlight area (pin 2 of J8401 was destroyed plus some minor corrosion)
-C2070 corroded under the pads
-The most afflicted area is around UB260, RB296, RB29A, RB291, RB263, U3100_R (just a bit on the right side), all the area around U8320_SWR with many capacitors having their pads a bit darker.
Overall I didn't detect any shorted line (PPBUS_G3H, PP3V3_UPC_R_LDO, PP3V3_TBT_R_SX)
I've desoldered, cleaned and resoldered U8320_SWR, U8300_SWR, UB260, U5920 but the laptop doesn't power on.
Before doing the cleaning and reflowing work, the behaviour upon attaching the power supply was:
On the Usb-c ports next to the U2800_X and U2800_T the usb meter read 5V 0.25A then switching to 20V 0.16A then going to 0 after few seconds
On the Usb-c ports on the other side, one port stayed at 5V 0.02A not cycling, the other behaved like the other side ones, switched to 20V 0.16A then zero A.
After the reflow process, the first two ports next to the U2800_X and U2800_T keep behaving the same.
The other side ports, the one that previously stayed at 5V 0.0.2A started to stay at 5V, ramped up at 0.25A then it power cycles.
The other one that previously switched to 20V, now it's stuck at 5V 0.25A but it doesn't power cycle.
I've read the repair wiki article about this issue, and before attempting to reball the CD3217 (U3100_R, affected by liquid damage), I'd like some advice. This is my first time working with this specific board, and I want to confirm whether the behavior suggests a CD3217 failure or another issue.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
