MacBook Pro A2289 (820-01987-A) No boot/image, but boots to DFU

Hi everyone. Just a reminder I am not a professional repair technician, fixing Apple electronics is my hobby.

Recently got my hands on MacBook Pro A2289 with interesting behavior. Pristine condition, no water damage, no visual issues whatsoever. It has no image, no CapsLock, no life except the fan is spinning. But it is able to boot into DFU and recognized by another MacBook. I tried to revive and restore the laptop, but the process ends when the MacBook usually should show an Apple logo with a progress bar. I assume the main power lines and T2 are working. It seems like the Intel CPU part is not turning on, CPU does not get hot.

On the USB meter I got 20V/0.2A power draw, no looping. The fan is spinning. No image (I checked with a bright flash light), no sound, no CapsLock activity. Found similar case on repair wiki: https://old.repair.wiki/w/A2289_2020_13%22_MacBook_Pro. PP0v95_S0_CPUVCCIO_REG_R is not present (some millivolts instead of 0.95V). But this one does not match my case: "Check the PVCCIO_EN signal at R8165 - It should be present at 3.3v.". I got 1.8V instead on PVCCIO_EN line. Checked the schematic, PP3V3_S5 is present (3.3V). As far as I understand, the PVCCIO_EN signal is made by U7800.

It is possible that U7800 is bad, but I assume something else (voltage/signal) may be missing, before the PVCCIO_EN is made. So may be U7800 is not the cause of the problem? What for should I look next?

May be there is a power on sequence for A2289 model? Looking forward for your help.

Managed to solve this by replacing U7710, U8110 (ISL95870) and U8500 ICs from A2159 donor board.

Measure the voltage to ground of PPBUS_G3H. This voltage will confirm if T2 has booted ok or not.

Sorry, forgot to mention, PPBUS_G3H is present (around 13V, stable).

MacBook Pro A2289 no signs of life except clicking trackpad and charging
              by Woodsworth
              Hi,

I hope this is the correct place to post about this device. I originally posted regarding this on iFixit so see the details from that post below:

"I'm hoping someone can give their opinion on the symptoms I'm seeing before I spend any more time and put money into this. I got this MacBook from a customer and after looking at it they decided they didn't want it.

It doesn't turn on and there's no visual signs of life. I have tried resetting the NVRAM, SMC, power cycling, unplugging the battery, using the charger with the battery unplugged. Removed the...

I have a problem I'm hoping someone can help me with. I have an A2289 MacBook that had some liquid damage. After repairing any areas that had corrosion, I was able to get it to show 20v but only .01a on the multimeter. It was consistent on all ports, however I could not get the MacBook to go into DFU mode. I read that I should refllash U4770 and after grabbing the bin from this site I did just that. After soldering the chip back on the board, now I have DFU mode, but the thing is, it won't revive or restore, giving me the error that the device left the DFU state or something to that effect. The...

              MacBook Pro A2289 No Power
              by jasonr2000
hi guys I have a 2020 MacBook Pro A2289 it has the i5 CPU and is now acting as if its dead,

when I plug in the charger cable with a volt meter thing connected as well its drawing 20.3v and 1.11A

if I press the power button nothing happens.

but if I hold the power button for 7 seconds or more the voltmeter drops all the amps down to 0.00A but voltage stays the same.

any ideas where I can check ??

from what I can gather it must be charging the battery at 1.11A as nothing happens when the power button is pressed. I can successfully...
