MacBook Pro A2289 no signs of life except clicking trackpad and charging

    Hi,

I hope this is the correct place to post about this device. I originally posted regarding this on iFixit so see the details from that post below:

"I'm hoping someone can give their opinion on the symptoms I'm seeing before I spend any more time and put money into this. I got this MacBook from a customer and after looking at it they decided they didn't want it.

It doesn't turn on and there's no visual signs of life. I have tried resetting the NVRAM, SMC, power cycling, unplugging the battery, using the charger with the battery unplugged. Removed the motherboard and tried cleaning it then putting back in but to no avail. The fan does spin for a second, then stops, then starts and repeats until the battery drains. The battery cells are flat. I have also used my dock and plugged it into my monitor but it doesn't pick it up. I've plugged my keyboard in and it looks to be turning on and off, seems the MacBook must be in a restart loop. The trackpad also clicks.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. I suspect the logic board is knackered.

    Thanks in advance."

Since posting that, I have used a USB power meter and got this reading when charging - 20.04V and a max of 1.19 Amps when charging with the Steam Deck power brick I have. I don't have the original power brick as this was one from a customer who found it was broken one day.
I believe this is one we treated for liquid damage in the past but had the logic board replaced when it was under warranty. I can't be sure of that though. I have also tried to boot with the battery disconnected and just plugged into the power brick, no change, and without the display and trackpad connected (on separate occasions) but the outcome was unchanged, I think that's by design though.

I do have the schematics for the board and the corresponding PDF of many details but in all honesty, it is overwhelming and I don't know where to start being a beginner. If anyone could point me in the direction of what they would try first in terms of in depth troubleshooting and how to understand the schematics and PDF, I'd be very grateful.

I forgot to add that I don't have access to another MacBook which can install Apple Configurator 2 as well.

[Macbook pro A1708] [Boot loop] [Trackpad ?]
      by No Lan
      Hey everyone,

Usually, I'm not the type to ask for help, but this time, I'm calling on your wisdom and expertise I've seen what this community can do, so I'm pretty sure you guys can help me out.

Here's the deal: I noticed my MacBook got stuck in a boot loop. After opening it up and doing some initial troubleshooting, I found that the boot loop stops only when the trackpad is unplugged.

Now, just so you know, the trackpad actually works — I tested it with another motherboard and it's all good. Same for the cable, no issues there. The problem is only...

Apple Macbook Air M1 A2337 Trackpad problem
      by Skrndelj
      Hello all,

      I am repairing a Macbook A2337 and i have a problem
The Macbook is stuck in restore as someone before me tried a DFU restore and bricked the device, now i can't do a restore as AC2 throws error 1 which is related to the trackpad.
When i turn on the device i get the trackpad click for a few moments and then nothing, i tried 7 trackpads and 7 trackpad flats, i know all 7 are functioning okay, especially one as i use it for testing and DFU restore.
I inspected the whole board and everything seems fine.
Can anyone help me as i didn't fiddle with trackpad...

MacBook Air M2 A2681 no Trackpad
      by rynr
      Hello,
I have been following the posts in the forum for some time now and have learned a lot. I would first like to thank you for this and hope that it will continue for a long time.

I received the MacBook in DFU. The recovery always failed with error 1. After some search, I was able to find a defective inductor (LT202).
After replacing the component, I was able to successfully complete the DFU restore. Unfortunately, the trackpad and keyboard where still without function.

So i measured all voltages and diodereadings on the JT400 connector. ...

MacBook Pro A2289 (820-01987-A) No boot/image, but boots to DFU
      by baglaivlad
Hi everyone. Just a reminder I am not a professional repair technician, fixing Apple electronics is my hobby.

Recently got my hands on MacBook Pro A2289 with interesting behavior. Pristine condition, no water damage, no visual issues whatsoever. It has no image, no CapsLock, no life except the fan is spinning. But it is able to boot into DFU and recognized by another MacBook. I tried to revive and restore the laptop, but the process ends when the MacBook usually should show an Apple logo with a progress bar. I assume the main power lines and T2 are working. It seems like the Intel...

Macbook A2338 M2 (EMC 8162) keyboard not functioning, trackpad is working
      by Vliegenier04
Hi! This Mac has been an headscratcher for me, I can't seem to figure out the issue. The Macbook has gotten water damage to the front of the keyboard connector and battery connector. The keyboard connector was dead, by which I mean it was completely corroded and I have replaced it with a brand new one.
I have verified all the pins are connected to the main board and the main voltages (PP1V8_AONSW_KBD_ISNS and PP3V3_AON_KBD_CONN) are both present, with and without keyboard attached.

Unfortunately, the keyboard does NOT want to work, caps lock LED not functioning as well as any...
