Maybe it's just the lighting or some kind of factory mark, but - https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...8&d=1388829551

Possibly a scorch mark on that chip to the left? And what's the odd liquid-sort of stuff?

Good observation and I can see what you mean from looking at the image. The machine is packed away at the moment but I'll pull it back out tomorrow after work and clarify what you pointed out

The liquidy stuff looks like possibly a sign of water damage, or maybe flux? Good luck eitherway!

You've got exceptionally good eyes spotting that dried liquid from the photo I posted

I'm not 100% sure but it looked like flux. The mark on top of the chip was red pen / red marker pen. It all came off with some rubbing alcohol and a few cotton buds.

I'm going to try and hunt down a new ribbon cable due to the sharp creases in the current one. If I can find a replacement board cheap enough then I'll pick one up but I'll start with the ribbon cable.

Alas, if I can find one it will probably be from the USA so it will probably be a few weeks before I report back.

Many thanks for your help both of you
