    HP G6 DC/DC controller Hot-to-touch

    Hi guys,

So apparently from running top notch one moment, the laptop started smoking, and later went completely dead. Now whenever you feed power to the motherboard, it starts to repeat the same cycle (burn and smoke).

TPS51123 was getting hot so had it replaced with a TPS51124, but the motherboard continues to smoke when applied powered. With or without the controller.

What could cause this to happen?

    Pictures attached.

The two controller parts are not interchangeable, looking at the datasheets reveal that even the pinouts are different.

You most likely have a shorted capacitor, diode, MOSFET, or the actual circuitboard is shorted internally. (Could also be something else down the line that is shorted too...)
