HP CQ58: Power on; No Display

Got here a HP CQ58 and as in title.

The thing that bothers me is that when you touch positive and negative of few caps I get a short (continuity test). Once CPU is removed, no short. This really puzzled me. Change CPU chip and same issue.

Not sure if the GPU chip is at fault with label "sjtnv" as it has no heatsink. Could it needs a reball? Reflow has no effect.

OR....I may need to remove all these caps to see if any is at fault?

    Thanks!

You need to consider a reflow to.
First write down the values you measure and then reflow.
Start with a low reflow if it does change reflow it properly.
          My opinion
Just cook it! It's already broken.

Where is the caps? If they are around the CPU then it is normal. But you didn't told that the laptop remains on or turned off?
If this model of HP have Smart Fan technology (I think it have) it is normal too. (fan spins stops) For more details you can check the cpu and bga chips (bga chips that they are under the heatsink) temperature by touching them ,If any of them have a high temperature and still fan spins stops, then maybe it caused by I/O ic , because the one of the I/O duties is controlling the fan spins.
But before resold the chips or changing the I/O ic,I am agree with Pragmatiko, first check the backup battery voltage and if it was true then program the bios ic.
Sorry if I had fault in English writing or grammar and hope that was be useful for you.
            Good Luck

Caps are located beside CPU. backup battey reads 3v so thats ok.

Laptop stays on as in the power button light. Did a bios reflashed and still same thing. Nothing on display.

Ok,now what's about the temperature and fan spins? Cpu or bga chips gone hot but still fan spins stops? If answer is "yes" ,so first change I/O ic and if "no" first check with RGB port by a monitor and see you have display or not? now:
1-If you have display on RGB port then GPU chip is ok but it may loosed some connections with motherboard and you can first resold it and if still haven't display then you must reball this chip (if your laptop haven't GPU chip,it is in northbridge)
2-If you haven't display on RGB port, you must desolder the GPU chip, after desoldered it you check the SMD caps on it,if you see even 1 short cap on it so you must change GPU 100% ,and if not, you can reball it.

I need to remind myself to update posts lol. But yes, replacing gpu solved it, reballed never worked so I gues chip was bad in the first place.

                        Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                        Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

                        Dear All,
Please really2 need Help on this Acer A515-52G Motherboard Compal EH5AW LA-G521P Rev: 1A.
At first this laptop can on, keyboard light on but no display. Open the motherboard, found out the PQZ3 Mosfet and PUZ3 ic near it burn. Refer picture below. Then I replaced both. All the power rail 3.3,5,1.2, 1.35, 0.8V have power back after i turn on the laptop except for the VCC_GT rail. Voltage at Power Supply showing 0.000A before turn on, after turn on it became 0.5 0.6A. Seem cannot boot and still no display. Then I replaced the PUG1 and mosfet, but the VCC_GT still no power....

                        by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                        Assuming...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                        by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
