Bought a laptop that needed a little work - I had to change LCD and keyboard. Ok, those got changed and are working correctly.
But now I discovered there is a problem with USB.
When I connect a device, it says the device is not recognized.
Only device it works with, is my plain old keyboard. None of my mice and USB flash drives are recognized.
I tried reinstalling drivers, turning the laptop off, removing battery and holding down the power button for a long time. Tried removing the battery (basicly clear CMOS) but none of it fixed the problem.
Then I took out my USB hub that had an external power source. Wired it up to my laptop and tried it with flash drives - everything worked perfectly.
So it seems like there is a problem with the power. Does anybody know a fix to this or atleast any idea where could I find a place to "steal" 5V from the motherboard to power USB devices.
Or what exactly distributes power to USB sockets?
I tested the voltage - reads out 5.08V which is nearly perfect.
