    HP DV9000 motherboard issues. Part number differences.

    Hello

    Well now I'm working on a HP DV9000 notebook. As many of you know that this, and many others, have issues with GPU over heating and the BGA chip becoming unsoldered from the motherboard.

    I've reflowed this board twice.....the second time didn't last very long....so I was going to reball the chip......I didn't do a very good job removing the chip and basically destroyed the board and chip removing it....so.....I'm looking for a replacement MB.

    I found a few on Ebay..... My PN is 444002-001. I found a board with the PN 441534-001. Anyone know what the difference is with the different PNs? The board looks to be the same shape and is listed for the DV9000. It does have a few more chips on it where mine was left blank. Is this a matter of just having different drivers? If that's the case, I don't think it would be a problem.

    Yes there is a used board on Ebay with my PN. The problem is I don't know if it's been over heated and is ready to fail.


    Thanks for your help in this matter! It would be really nice for to get this computer back up for my wife! :-)

      This is what I would do personally and your thoughts might be different due to financial constraints.

      If these HP DV series are prone to heat and BGA problems, I would invest my money somewhere else unless I got a great deal on ebay with some sort of 90 day warranty.

      Some ebay sellers are out just to dump their stuff to the next sucker. So they may do a quick reflow, make sure it boots to BIOS, and then dump it on ebay.

              I buy used stuff all the time. The key is knowing what you are buying and the price.

              If the used motherboard comes with a 90 day warranty from a seller that has 100% feedback and has been selling on ebay for years and at the RIGHT PRICE, I would have no hestitation in buying it.

              My hesitation would come because the HP DV series seem to have serious heating and BGA problems. However, that can be overcome at the RIGHT PRICE.

              Your definition of the RIGHT PRICE and mine could be vary significantly.

              PS. Everything used to post this message is 2nd hand or previously owned. And I mean everything from the mouse, keyboard, monitor, computer, hard drive, memory, CPU/motherboard, power supply, power bar, ethernet cable, wifi, and router.

                      Did the dv9000 series come with different submodels that had varying options (e.g. onboard infrared transmitter, maybe an extra firewire port or something like that)? Where are the "few more chips" located? That should give you a clue.

                          HP brought out 10 different models in the dv9000 series both in intel and amd chipsets

                                      All the boards are made by Quanta and the FM number is the key i.e. FM9 FM8
                                      All the schematics are available. I believe there were only 4 different boards.
                                      AMD integrated graphics and discrete. Intel integrated graphics and discrete

                                          Hello everyone! I have an old hp workstation z420. Xeon E5 1620 v2, 8gb ecc ddr3

                                          Basically, when I plug in the power cable to the power supply, it turns on and off while clicking every time it power cycles. Once I remove the power cable from the supply, it flashes a red light 4 times while beeping for about 10 seconds. I have purchased a new CPU and power supply already, but that hasnt fixed it so I'm convinced it's a motherboard level fault. If anyone has any ideas on what the fault could be, and/or how to diagnose it, that would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

                                          Hi, pretty much new here, glad I can be part of this community. I'm new to repairing laptops motherboards (Only previous experience was repairing a Z690I STRIX with a broken trace on the memory slot, and it was a sloppy job but worked)

                                          Bit of background: I'm not new replacing Laptop parts and doing general testing. Bought multiple laptops of the same model since it's easier to repair and got some that I can either switch parts and test.

                                          Subject is a blank screen issue in HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D version laptop with motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901 MB-A02. Production year is 2012. This one is a 2nd hand motherboard which I could use it for few months only. Suddenly no output from the internal display and also no signal from HDMI port then Windows out of order after few boots.

                                          Caps lock working normally and no HP's caps-lock warning blinks. Making a hard reset and replacing the RAM sticks or using different slots didn't help.

                                          Fans are spinning. Blindly could install windows11 and got the device manager...
