    nx6110 southbridge reflow

I have a HP NX6110 that freezes on splash screen unless i push down on the touchpad. After reading on a few forums i am led to believe the southbridge needs reflowing but ive also read that this chip is more sensitive to high temperatures than a standard bga chip.can anyone tell me if there are any special precautions i have to take with this chip or is it just the same process as a standard gpu reflow.

    thanks

Same thing really. Just use a lot of flux and you'll be fine.

Well , reflow will help , but not for a long. It can work a week or a year. Only reballing can warant proper working.

I believe these are a little different - similar to the T41 problems with the board flexing. I've had a few NX series with the same issue and a hot air gun does the trick nicely. The GPU reflows are a different beast where solder needs to reach liquidus.

what sort of success rate does reballing have in general.i have just invested in a reflow machine but never actually reballed anything as yet.would it not be better to buy one of the vga chips off ebay with the balls already fitted?

yes it would but the only ones ive ever seen are Chinese ones and these are rarely new and often refurbished. If you can find a local supplier who you could trust then yes, that would be much better.

Pressing the case around touchpad freeze for a sec on 2 sec. Can you gave me any tip? Currently i don't have infrared soldering machine to remove the chip-
