    Macbook A2159

    Hello,
    Namaste,
So i did a Macbook A2159 LCD only replacement with an after market screen from china. ( LCD Only, not the backlight or the entire assembly. Just the LCD).

The Macbook boots with normal brightness then the brightness just dims. It is feels like 40% brightness at 100%.

    Why so?
I think the supplier must have given a different version OEM display, maybe A1708 and this maybe a ALS issue which i could understand from the internet.

is there anyway to bypass that or increase the brightness via some other app?

Although it's recommended to return the LCD and acquire the original one ,but i feel you won't .
If so , try some free programs like in this link and see if it can help ..

Returning the screen is no longer an option as its already installed.
Is there a way we can use terminal or some command to bypass this.

Thanks for the softwares, but they dont work in this case.

Try a smc / pram reset.

Try first resetting smc/pram , like mon2 recommended .. If it didn't work try this :

Open system preferences -> displays -> color -> calibrate

Make sure "Expert Mode" is checked.

Click "Continue" over-and-over until you reach the "Select a target gamma" slider.

Drag the slider to the left until it reaches the desired brightness.

Click continue over-and-over until it asks you to name the color profile.

Ho, I did an SMC reset and everything but nothing worked.
Also could not find the settings you mentioned above, i am using MacOS Monterey.

Could not find any expert mode.

Are these the same symptoms as your case?

              https://boards.rossmanngroup.com/thr...01598-a.60475/

What are the voltage to ground for:

              I2C_ALS_SCL_R
              I2C_ALS_SDA_R

Hi Mon2, i fear this is the exact case as mine. The supplier gave me a display for A1708 instead of A2159. I am wondering if we can change the board on the lcd flex cable with that of the A2159. It is soldered on and not a big task. I have asked the customer to bring back the old screen . Logically speaking it should work and the Macbook will recognize the screen as its original and should give proper brightness. I dont know ! Do you have any clue whether that ll work.

Give me sometime i will post these above voltages.

Hi, its confirmed that the lcd is the wrong model. Checking those voltages will help?

                    Re: Macbook A2159

Personally was thinking of a hack. In the end, the display is an I2C based slave led driver from Texas Instruments.

Using a small I2C bus master, it should be possible to index this IC and change the intensity but such work will take time to develop. There are $0.10 usd micros from China that can do this with ease. Personally do not have the full details yet, but we could snoop the I2C traffic to learn the commands. Then change the intensity afterwards using our own circuit. If there is a value, can consider to develop it. It is a hack since the final solution will be a small pcb that mates with the I2C lines and us powered by this logic board. Just do not know how much time you have for this repair job.

Better if you can return the display to the vendor but if not, let me know.

The ALS signals may be stuck. If stuck, the logic board may think the environment is requiring the display to be dim. Let me study the hack idea.

Okay this sounds interesting, but i ll have to take the clients permission before intruding in the Motherboard. I will get back.

So the issue was solved by replacing the Display. But on the Similar Topic, i have come across this vide on the internet and i am very fascinated by it.

Is this really possible to reprogram the LCD boards like this. This will really help Macbook repair shop all across to manage work with lesser inventory.
