    Generator Brushes

Well the old Generator seems to be near needing new brushes. Its a Colman Power Mate Model PM52-2000. I have another number here. That would be 66140953. I bet finding these brushes is going to be a rabbit trick!

I'll have to look into that. We used to have ACE Hardware stores here and there.

I just did a search and the one I was thinking of is still there. Great!

Well I called that Ace Hardware store. Three different people put me on hold. They each said the samething, Quote: "Portable generator???" "Hold on and I'll check for you." "yes we carry them"..."No I don't want to buy a new one! I'm looking for brushes for and older one." "Hold on and I'll check for you." All the "Village Idiots" must work at that location now. I got tired of it and hung up. I'll call the one out in the county where they still have farms and the Hardware guys have to know their stuff.

Thanks Tc. I called the ACE out in Odenton, Md. and the woman that I spoke to was as sharp as a tack. She doesn't stock said brushes but she can get them from Colman. Cheryl said I should just find the "Contact us" on the colman site and order them up myself since I do have the colman part numbers on hand.

This is why induction generators are lower maintenance no brushes. The only wear part is the bearings.

How long did the brushes last before they crapped out?

There's nothing special about brushes if you measure the old ones you could pick them up anywhere online. Unless they have some sort of non removable holder for the springs that is.

No its not and AC induction generator. Its a self exciting brushed AC generator. This means diodes and caps work together to make the AC wave form. 3600 rpm makes the 60hz output.

fix the brushes... in your shoes, a spare is essential in case the honda craps out on you... and brushes are not that expensive iirc.

Good day folks. A former colleague of mine recommended me to a relative of his and I got to speak to this man today in person. He's a bit of a mad scientist/tinkerer sort-of guy - just my kind of weirdo Apparently this chap builds all sorts of generators and wind turbines in his little shop at home and sells them here and there. He even showed me some footage of some of his inventions in action out in the field. However, as he himself very kindly put it, he's not good with electronics - he just designs and builds the generators (from scratch, I might add) and turns to others for the electronic...

Dyson Cyclone v10 - Brushes not working

                      Hey everyone,
I have this portable vacuum cleaner that works just fine, except for the attached brushes that are completely dead. The vacuum motor has 3 speeds, but the brushes always worked at the same speed regardless. After a quick check I realized that the brushes are not getting a way to ground when the cleaner is on.

I accessed the motherboard and started probing around. Unfortunately, I didn't fully remove the motherboard because my iron is not powerful enough to melt the solder connection to the motor (vacuum) in the center of the board. The board was just soaking...

                      Inverter Generator Repair
                      by PM5K
I have an inverter generator that has two bad caps. One blew and the other was swollen.

My main issue is that the power supply
is encased in some type of epoxy.

My main concerns are regarding the epoxy and its purpose. I can imagine that it helps with vibration should I also be concerned with sparks since it's a gasoline generator?

The plan is to break off the old caps, cut the old legs off, clear out the solder points, then solder from the top since I cant get to the backside of the board.

This means that the legs of the caps...

                      Hi All,

Can someone please explain the difference between a 1kH square waveform with a 50% duty cycle and a similar waveform from a pulse generator?

                      Many thanks,
