Replacing capacitor in Original Xbox Foxlink Power Supply

    Hello all,

Got a bit of a noob question - I have an original XBox revision 1.0 with a Foxlink FTPS-0001 Rev B psu. I've already removed the infamous clock capacitor and I'm planning on replacing the caps around the big heat sink (Thanks to everyone who contributed to that massive thread for pointing me in the right direction) but I also noticed on the PSU there's one large cap that seems to be bulging a little. It is cap C19 and from my googling I've been able to determine it's a 2200 uF 10 V capacitor.

    My questions are:
    1) Can I just replace this with any cap of matching capacitance, voltage, and size or do I need to be careful to match other factors like ESR the way you seem to have to do with the 5 caps around the CPU? And if so, how would I find out those specs? People have posted the exact models of those CPU caps so their datasheets could be looked up but I've found nothing on the PSU caps besides capacitance and voltage

    2) This particular cap is under a lot of that white glue/putty that is all over every xbox PSU. Is there a particularly easy way to get it out from under that and then would I need to find something to re-secure the new cap or could I just solder it in and leave it?

Appreciate any assistance y'all can provide!

you need low esr caps such as panasonic FR series.

if you see any 1200uf caps in that foxlink - change them.
in the 230v supplies they always dry up inside

Thanks so much for the reply! That's very helpful and I'll go order some of those.

This psu does have a couple of 1200uf so I'll order some replacements for those as well. Can those be replaced with polymer caps like the ones by the CPU?

Also would you happen to know if securing them with anything like the original glue or putty they used is necessary or can I just solder them in and call it done?

      Thanks again for your help

        you dont need glue,
as for polymers - i dont know and it's a bit expensive to find out.

          Original Xbox 1.0 PSU: Foxlink FTPS-0002 Rev. B. — 12 V low, 5 V high — transformer?
          by ohren
          Hello!

I'm looking at an original Xbox PSU: Foxlink ftps-0002 rev. B. The 12 V output is too low, and the 5 V output is too (?) high. Unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope but only a DMM for diagnosis.

          Measured voltages with no load:

          After rectifier diodes
          12V: 6.17 V
          5V: 5.67 V

Secondary transformer pins AC measurement (really don't know if this says anything)
          12V: 2-2.5 V
          5V: 1.04 V

I also have another (working) Xbox psu from Delta. The same measures there, in order, being: 10.79,...

Original Xbox Power Supply Repair - FTPS-0002
          by NatoPotato
          Hey there friends!

I have an original Xbox power supply, model FTPS-0002, that isn't showing any signs of life. I have never really done power supply repairs before but I'm eager to learn so I am hoping someone can help me diagnose this.

The issue is that I get no 3.3VSR standby voltage which in turn leads to no 5v or 12v. A couple things I have noticed in my initial inspection.
Resistor 25 and 29 are both reading OL, Capacitor 17 and 20 seem to be leaking as seen in the photos.

So far I have confirmed that 240v, main fuse and the 400v cap is...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

          Assuming...

Firstly I am not a tech. You guys may see mistakes or oversights in my methods so don't be bashful and feel free to post corrections/opinions.

          =>Background:
I bought my son a used Xbox One original model: A12-220N1A Rev: 02 with original PSU & 2 controllers 7 years ago. I “modded” the unit placing a 4.5” 12V exhaust fan with a 9v wall wart adapter on top of the vent/fan of the unit. And plugged the Xbox PSU into a Tripplite LTR-600 voltage regulator. Also connected to the Tripplite are a 275w computer tower, an Xbox 360 PSU and a Westinghouse 52” LED TV. ...
