    Recapped Genesis

Not exactly a computer motherboard, but it is my Sega Genesis motherboard.

The difference new caps made, was huge.

Oh yea, new caps for the win, and I used only nichicon, panasonic, and united-chemicon..

    Nice job!

Even through youtube's excessive audio compression, the improvement is obvious.

    EOL it...

That don't look like the original version! Looks more like some shrunken version from 1999ish! (If they even still were manufactured!) (Like Sony, with the PS1!) "Chhsi" screams very late 1990s, IIRC!

        It's a Model 1 Genesis, VA3 motherboard. Those are from around 1990..

This is the motherboard as it is today. I've extremely hacked it.. Overclocked, region modded, sound chip upgraded (to a mostly compatible part that has same features but better, but not 100% object compatible, requiring an elaborate piggy backing chip hack), and CPU upgrade to a military specced 68000 (just for kicks no benefit really).

          The sound chip hack: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a.jpg~original

So yea, I know my way around this beast :P But those caps, oh damn did they make a difference in sound quality.. Visually a little better too.. Far cleaner video output, especially when on an RGB monitor.

At first, it reminded me of Sony's joke super small version of the PlayStation 1!

Could you re-upload those photos here? Photobucket makes me feel like I'm using a 28.8 modem.

What capacitor should I purchase for Power Supply of obsolete game consoles?
                    by chth96
                    hello.

I have Sega Saturn and 5 years ago, I recapped all of capacitor in the Power supply, Because At that time, It frequently freezed black screen after SEGA logo displayed.

It hardly ever freezed after I finished to recap all of caps in the power supply.

But Yesterday, It did not show any screen at all and its green power LED constantly blinked.

To my surprise I found that all of two NXH 10v 2200uf capacitors in the secondary area of Power supply have been bulged and It measured 57 mF and 75 mF capacitance.

                    It seems that quality...

                    Diagnosing Sega CD 2

                    Hey all,

Hopefully someone here knows about “vintage” game systems.

I have a Sega CD and it runs perfectly fine except for two specific things I've seen so far.

                    1. The boot menu music is distorted, that is the jingle that plays on the loading screen with no disc inserted. It seems that is it specifically the bass line of the jingle. It is fully distorted/scratchy sounding.

                    2. I've only come across this issue in Spider-Man so far. During any cutscene when dialogue is playing, the audio will intermittently skip, the same way every time....

Will the Rubycon ML capacitors do the trick for a Sega Megadrive (Genesis)?
                    by Y. Signal
Hello. I have a Sega Mega Drive model 1 VA6 (it's the same as Sega Genesis) that I plan to recap to improve the sound that, although good, it's not great as other board of the same revision I own.

After much reading I've come to the conclusion that I need high quality capacitors with low ESR (but not too low) from a trusted provider. I bought Panasonic FC but I couldn't find the 1uF 50V neither 1uF 100V, so I got Rubycon ML 1uF 50V, are these ones good for this board? they're general purpose, low ESR and suitable for audio/video according to the provider.

                    I've been...

                    Recapped BP6 and HPT366 issue
                    by browny1978
So I'm an owner of a BP6 and it was in fantastic condition, with none of the original capacitors showing any signs of failure. But one day a year or so back, it failed to Post, after working fine just a few hours earlier.

So I did the usual, swapped all the components etc. etc. to no avail. So I boxed it up and thought I'd deal with it another day.

About a month back i recapped the board with Rubycon caps all of the ratings as per this site, but still to no avail. No post.

So I bought some SST BIOS chips that were of similar spec to the winbond one...

                    Hi everyone,

Symptom: When I press the power button the power LED lights up for a second and the fan etc spins for a second then the unit turns itself off and will not do the same thing again unless I unplug the power cable for a few minutes then plug it back in otherwise if I just turn the power switch off and back on right after it comes on for a second it will not come on again unless like I said unplug the power cord for a few minutes then plug it back in.

What I have done to try to isolate the issue so far:

The system powers on and stays on with...
