    Recapped BP6 and HPT366 issue

So I'm an owner of a BP6 and it was in fantastic condition, with none of the original capacitors showing any signs of failure. But one day a year or so back, it failed to Post, after working fine just a few hours earlier.

So I did the usual, swapped all the components etc. etc. to no avail. So I boxed it up and thought I'd deal with it another day.

About a month back i recapped the board with Rubycon caps all of the ratings as per this site, but still to no avail. No post.

So I bought some SST BIOS chips that were of similar spec to the winbond one used on the BP6. I programmed one with the official Abit bios, and it also verified good, so I plugged it in, still not expecting much, and voila, it POST'd.

So now I've bought it back from the dead, the issue i've now found is that with a hard drive plugged in to the onboard hpt366 ide controller, if freezes on the hpt bios screen. no hard is detected. use the standard ide sockets and all is fine. Can anybody help?

    Perhaps try later BIOS version

Text file out of attached Zip mentions later versions of HPT366 controller embedded within Abit version RU BIOS

Revert to original Winbond chip ??

Some BIOS change logs (not necessarily Abit) mention supporting different chips, so something subtle may be going on in your case

It wouldnt surprise me. Unfortunately my USB programmer didnt support the winbond chip, so I took a punt on the SST chips, as I've used SST before. I'll probably need to buy a TL866 programmer then.

I mentioned EC32 (it's also a lytic) as it's in close vicinity of the HPT366, and may be also the reason why your BP6 freezes when trying to access the HPT controller. I remember recapping my Soyo 6BA+IV with Panasonic caps around the HPT controller (also a 366) just so I don't let the original WENDELL caps do any weird juju (like freezing on the HPT BIOS) on my board.

That, and I also would like to know, is the HPT BIOS by any chance the one with a blue background? If so, that one shouldn't have any 40GB HDD limit on it. Maybe 128GB but I doubt it.

OK. I've tried different bios's with different hpt366 embedded bios's to no avail.

The original usb programmer I used didn't give you the option. You plugged it in, it identified it, and then you pressed write to program it. I've just got a Tl866ii+ and that does allow me to choose the exact chip. But although it's flashed correctly. The win bond chip doesn't post still. I do have another chip on order just in case the chip is faulty.

**Need Help Unlocking BIOS and Hard Drive on Dell Precision 5820 Tower**
                        by federalhouse
                        Hi everyone,

I'm in need of assistance with a Dell Precision 5820 Tower. The BIOS is locked with "Dell Security Manager," preventing access to the HDD-1 hard drive.

                        **Background:**

I recently purchased this Dell Precision 5820 Tower from a recycler who salvages equipment from abandoned office spaces. The computer was left behind by its previous owner and was password locked. Given that it can run Windows 11, I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade my setup.

                        **What I've Tried So Far:**

                        1. I accessed

MacBook Air A2337 (820-02016) USB-C Port Issue – Only Works in One Orientation (CC Line Problem?)
                        by rounin
                        Hi everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

                        🛠 Original Issue
                        The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

Three 820-01700 32GB Logic Boards Same Issue: Won't Wake From Hibernate
                        by ugamazing
I have three identical-spec 820-01700 boards (2.6/32/512), and ALL THREE boards came to us with the same fault, from different sources: The boards don't wake from hibernation with the keyboard or lid, they ONLY wake when you press the power button. I understand this is a very minor issue, but the boards must be fixed!

We will of course begin with the obvious (checking lid signals), but I couldn't help but notice these three boards were all 32GB variants. Has anyone noticed an issue relating to these 32GB boards in particular? I of course don't think it's a RAM issue, but it's bizarre...

                        Hello guys!
I have a strange issue with my laptop keyboard and I'm lost trying to detect what's wrong - the KB9028Q-C or the keyboard itself.
It powers on OK and has no other issues except the following:
                        • CAPS LOCK does not work at all
                        • Fn button toggles Flight Mode
                        • When I press 't' or '5', it produces 't5', and when I press 'y' or '6', it produces 'y6'
                        • (with SHIFT pressed: 't%' and 'y^' respectively)
I initially thought it was a keyboard malfunction (internal short, etc.),
but when I press and hold...
