    Diagnosing Sega CD 2

    Hey all,

Hopefully someone here knows about “vintage” game systems.

I have a Sega CD and it runs perfectly fine except for two specific things I've seen so far.

    1. The boot menu music is distorted, that is the jingle that plays on the loading screen with no disc inserted. It seems that is it specifically the bass line of the jingle. It is fully distorted/scratchy sounding.

    2. I've only come across this issue in Spider-Man so far. During any cutscene when dialogue is playing, the audio will intermittently skip, the same way every time. It's basically like a second or two of audio, then full distorted skipping kind of noise, back to perfectly fine for 1-2 seconds, then fully distorted again. This happens only during the cutscenes. This audio does not appear to be “redbook” audio as it is not one of the files on the disc.

The Sega CD plays regular CD audio just fine, both from the AV port of the unit and through the Genesis AV port. Which leads me to believe two things…

    1. Whatever chip supplies non-cd audio to the genesis is bad
    2. Perhaps the CMOS chip should be replaced since (I think) this is where the boot audio is

I know the disc itself is fine it works on another unit.

Any thoughts on how I can proceed?

    cmos chip????

    most chips are cmos.
find a schematic - i'm sure they exist.

is this a unit that fits on a genesis/megadrive or is it standalone?

Sorry I think I meant BIOS chip, not CMOS chip.

PS5 Disc Not Supported/ Disc Not Recognized Board Num: EDM-020
        by Junior††

        Good Afternoon fellas,

        Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
        - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
        - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
        - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

        Question:
        I...

Yamaha MOX8 boot freeze and distorted sound
        by maleksa
My Yamaha MOX8 synthesizer recently developed two issues.

Firstly, after booting up, it operates as normal. However, after about 5 minutes, the sound starts to get distorted (broken up screeching sound) almost like putting it through a guitar distortion pedal. After a while, the distorted sounds will go away for a while and comes back. At times, the synthesizer will also freeze I need to power off and on again.

Secondly, when powering off and on again, there will be times where the synthesizer will freeze during the boot sequence (freezes at the MOX8 Opening Screen),...

Looking for help diagnosing a 65" Panasonic Viera TV - TH-65DX700Z (Turns on - Clicks - Turns off)
        by mostachio
        Hi Badcaps,

I've had a friend discard a TH-65DX700Z Pansonic Viera Television and I've decided to have a go at repairing it. If possible could I please get some advice in terms of diagnosing the problem so I can purchase the appropriate parts for repair whether it be components, a repair kit or a replacement board. I am happy to post pictures if required.

        TV Details:

        Model # - TH-65DX700Z

        Symptoms:

The television turns on and displays a picture then makes a clicking sound and turns off.

I haven't opened it up yet but...

Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB (Chassis SR) TV Repair Help - Distorted Subwoofer Sound and overall weird sound waveforms
        by LEECH666
        Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...
