If a diode gives you a reading backwards out of circuit, it’s bad.

I know thats a 100% safe way to test, but wasn't sure if it was necessary if you can get the same reading while in circuit. Should the rule be, always test components out of circuit? I know you have to with caps.

When in doubt take it out! Best way to measure components is taking it out of the circuit or lift a leg.

Hah, thats a good way to remember it, and you were right! The issue is, both the diodes tested working when I removed them haha. So now I'm really stuck because without a schematic, I can't really go much further, aside from just changing the other 4 capacitors and hoping for the best!

I suppose it's time to take this a little further with someone with more expertise and knowledge to diagnose it.

Surface Pro 7 type 1866 PD controller firmware issue
            by titomno2
            Hi guys,

            Hope you are fine.
I'm struggling to fix a small issue with one of the tablet Surface Pro 7 type 1866 i'm fixing (windows 11).
The boot time is so long (up to 5-10 minutes).
After several attempt I finally find one thing is not right (PD controller firmware is 0.0.0 it can't update to 3.6.1) under device manager I have a yellow mark, code 14 and error as decribed on picture attached.
I don't find any information regarding the error code 0x1803 (and sometimes it change to 0x1804.
In the past I have found that if the update is a success, the boot...

Reading Serial Midi data with an oscilloscope
            by zombie.guitarist
Hey all, I have one last thing I'm looking to fix with my Synthaxe. This time, the schematics I have are actually the same as the PCBs I have.

The Synthaxe, works as its a guitar midi controller hooked up to a floor pedal. Thats the most basic way of using it, and it has a midi output. You also can connect a console to it, that stores your tunings and other things. The console has 8 midi outs, as well as a midi in and midi thru.

When I first got the unit, I thought I was using it wrong, but it turns out its just broken. The 8 midi ports on the console don't output...

Victrix pro bfg ps5/pc controller - battery issue
            by bociub
            Hi there

So, here is a controller which has 2 batteries, their connectors on the right side. The controller does not work wirelessly and if I try to switch on it lights in red until i release the button. Furtheremore, I beleive that it never ever worked wirelessly. The voltage on the batteries (between a-c and x-z) are 3.8 volts and if I connect it to a charger it flashes one green.
however the voltages on the middle pins are different and I cross tested the batteries and it was same so the issue is going to be with the board itself. (i beleive so)

            So, between...

PS4 controller left stick potentiometer replacement issue
            by ezenia
            Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...

HP Elitebook 830 G8 HP Endpoint Controller error and no power issue (intermitent)
            by Nene01
            Hi all,

I have a HP Elitebook 830 G8 with endpoint controller error and besides that laptop sometimes doesn´t power on and i think it´s bios related also.
I already tried to solve the issue with SMDFlea patch fix and now i can´t power on the equipment anymore not even replacing main bios by its original.

Please take a look at my original main bios and help me if possible (i also attached EC BIOS without password).
The mainboard also had password that i manage to remove.

            Thanks
            Best Regards...
