    MSI MS 6337 816EPT PRO ver5 problems

    Hello!

    Msi MS 6337 816EPT PRO ver5
    Problem: 1 cap bad and 1 mosfet bad (see pics)
    Specs:
    Cap: Teapo, 1000uF, 6,3v, 105C
    Mosfet: Panasonic,
    N-channel logic level field-effect power transistor in a plastic package using
    TrenchMOS™1 technology.
    PHD45N03LT in SOT428 (D-PAK)
    Reference JEDEC TO 252

    VDS drain-source voltage (DC) Tj = 25 to 175 °C - 25 V
    ID drain current (DC) Tmb = 25 °C; VGS = 5 V - 45 A
    Ptot total power dissipation Tmb = 25 °C - 86 W
    Tj junction temperature - 175 °C
    RDSon drain-source on-state resistance
    VGS = 10 V; ID = 25 A 16 - 21 mOhm
    VGS = 5 V; ID = 25 A 20 - 24 mOhm

    It is possible that another component was damaged when cap and mosfet died ?
    Replacing the cap is not a problem, but the mosfet is. Can I replace it with another using
    aprox specs or it's a must for the specs to be the same?
    I found these mosfet candidates from salvaged boards:

    Infineon:
    VDS - 25 V
    ID - 50 A
    Ptot - 83 W
    Tj - 175 °C
    RDSon VGS = 10 V; ID = 30 A 5,0 - 5,9 mOhm
    VGS = 4,5 V; ID = 30 A 7,7 - 9,6 mOhm

    Fairchild Semiconductor:
    VDS - 30 V
    ID - 46 A
    Ptot - 50 W
    Tj - 150 °C
    RDSon VGS = 10 V; ID = 12 A 12,5 mOhm
    VGS = 4,5 V; ID = 12 A 16 mOhm

    Thank you in advance for any advice or information.

      That seems to be mosfet for VTT (for CPU) or something like that. The exact mosfet type is not critical - only make sure the new one has equal or better parameters. I think that both your Infineon and Fairchild replacement will work.
      The exact type is critical when there are more mosfets connected in parallel or bridge driven by one chip (typical configuration for main VCC CPU power) - then all of them must be of the same type or something bad will happen.

        It's possible that the CPU was damaged ? I didn't find another matching socket type board to test it.
        The bad cap started all the problems ?

          How do you test MOSFET in laptops ?
          by Jane
          I tried to use this method:

          Testing an N-channel MOSFET:

          Step 1: Discharge the Gate (turn off the MOSFET)
          Place the black probe (COM) on the Source (S) and the red probe on the Drain (D). The multimeter should show no continuity (high resistance or "OL" – open line).
          Then, touch the black probe to the Source (S) and the red probe to the Gate (G). This discharges any stored charge in the Gate, turning the MOSFET off.

          Step 2: Charge the Gate (turn on the MOSFET)
          Now, place the red probe on the Gate (G) and the black probe on the

          Asus X712EA 3 volts after the first mosfet
          by AppleLover123
          Hey guys,

          i have a asus motherboard here and as the title says after the first mosfet (in the picture) there is nothing more than 3.15v.
          I injected 19v and max. 1 amp at the charging port and there is not voltage drop or smth. It's just taking 19v and 1 milliamp.
          Then i tried to inject 19v and max 1amp after the current sensor and there it first takes 19v and 4 milliamps and after 2 seconds it is taking nothing (no current).
          I measured on the coils on board everything seems fine. Also the main power rail is not shorted (infinite resistance).
          Now i thought something...

          ASUS ROG Zephyrus GPU Mosfet repeat failure
          by MicroSMD Lab
          The board number is GU502DU. I repaired this a couple weeks ago and it came back with the same issue, same mosfet failed (PQH9201). I'm hoping that the GPU was spared this time.
          I used the same replacement part (purchased from Mouser) and I'm certain the soldering was done properly since it took just as much effort to remove as before. What could cause this same mosfet to fail? I'm thinking if it was unsuitable then the others would fail too. I looked for similar failures on YTube and the mosfet was replaced with AOE6930 in one instance and AOE6932 in the other but it's possible that the...

          Asus GA502D keeps blowing mosfet
          by Scotchmist
          I have an Asus GA502D, it had a blown mosfet which I replaced and the laptop booted into windows, a few mins later it shut off, the same mosfet was blown. I thought maybe just a bad mosfet but same thing happened again, a few mins in windows and shuts off.

          I have removed the mosfet and can run the laptop no problem

          The MOSFET is FDPC5018SG

          Can anyone point me in the direction of what could be the cause of this, could it be the controller rt3663bc?

          Thanks

          Intel DX58SO high side VRM MOSFET keeps failing
          by dougg3
          Hi there,

          I have an Intel DX58SO motherboard that failed last year. One of the high side VRM MOSFETs failed shorted, and it killed my i7 980 CPU. This motherboard has a 6-phase VRM. The parts used on this motherboard's VRM are:
          • 6 x High side MOSFET: NTMFS4841NH
          • 6 x Low side MOSFET: NTMFS4834N
          • 6 x Driver: ADP3121JCPZ

          It was easy to figure out where the short was, because the bad MOSFET's gate was shorted to the drain/source too. Once I removed it, all the shorts were gone on the motherboard, and I confirmed on the removed MOSFET itself that the gate/drain/source...
