Hi
I got this laptop with bad onboard ram so edited the bios with SPD removal tool to disable the onboard ram and work with the ram slot - the laptop now posted so i thought all was good however when i put everything back together it will not boot to windows as no boot device found., In the bios is says hdd not detected, i disabled VMD in the bios but still the same, loaded windows on usb stick and windows install cannot find the hdd. I bought a second board that had water spill, repaired the damaged area and it posted ok but same issue no hdd detected.

Asus GA502D keeps blowing mosfet
I have an Asus GA502D, it had a blown mosfet which I replaced and the laptop booted into windows, a few mins later it shut off, the same mosfet was blown. I thought maybe just a bad mosfet but same thing happened again, a few mins in windows and shuts off.
I have removed the mosfet and can run the laptop no problem
The MOSFET is FDPC5018SG
Can anyone point me in the direction of what could be the cause of this, could it be the controller rt3663bc?
Thanks

Re: Component identification. Acer nitro 7 An715
Thanks mon2
I removed the part and cap but short still present at almost 1 ohm
Probing around I noticed 3v is missing from SY8288BRAC so swapped out for a new one. Plugged in charger and battery voltage came back and charge light came on
Pressed power button and charge light went out and 3v is gone again - unplugged then plugged charger in, charge light came back on
Probed around checking voltages and charge light went off and voltages dropped - only 19v present

Component identification. Acer nitro 7 An715
Hi,
I have received this laptop where the screen had been replaced with the battery still connected.
He said when he plugged in the power supply the orange charge light came on, he pressed the power button and the blue light came on for a second and both blue and orange lights went off
He did this three times and now there is no charge or power light. 19v is going in and 3.3v is present, I've disconnected the screen to make sure this is not causing an issue.
There is a cap shorted near the LCD connector, there is also a 5 pin IC labeled...

Gigabyte p55w power issue
Hi,
I have a gigabyte p55w laptop that does not power on
Board is GA-RP55W6 rev 1.2
I have 3.4v at the power button, when the power button is pressed it goes from 3.4v to 0v and stays at 0v. I cannot find any shorts on the inductors or mosfets.
Can anyone point me in the correct direction please.

Asus dual RX 480 short?
I have an Asus dual RX 480
I have taken resistance measurements of all the rails and cannot see a short but when in the pc and I press power button pc cuts off
I have powered the pc up with just the 12v plug connected to the GPU and 12v is getting to the rails OK.
There are no shorts on the PCIE connector, I cannot see any physical damage or find any other shorts.
Are the resistance measurements ok. Is there anything else I can check
Thanks for any help...

Re: Zotac 1070 ram fault
All fully working now. Was the bios stopping the other ports from working.

Re: Zotac 1070 ram fault
Thanks DynaxSC, I have reflowed the ram and got it to boot and runs Furmark without issue.
Got another issue now, HDMI output is not displaying but is giving an output to the screen causing it to blink on off, the first Display port is not giving an output at all.
Both bottom display ports work fine.
I think when this first happened I changed the bios so will go back to the original bios and see if it displays ok on the other 2 ports

Zotac 1070 ram fault
I have a zotac 1070 that does not display, I ran mod-mats and it showed an error on bank c1 ram.
I removed the ram from c1 then ran mods again to make sure it was the correct ram
I then replaced the ram with a new chip but still no display and mods reports errors still
See photo of all 3 reports, can anyone help with this, I will reflow the chip again and I also have another chip just in case.
Thanks...

Re: 1660 super repair - not detected
Bios is being probed at boot, I missed it. Still not detected

Re: 1660 super repair - not detected
I think I had 3.3v somewhere, I will check again, it's a 6gb card so only 6 1gb chips.
I have checked the pcie reset and that is going high which suggests that is ok
I have one of them cheap oscilloscopes and looks like the bios is not being probed by the card, tried to get a reading from the crystal it is reading 1.8v but not getting a frequency reading. Not sure if it's the cheap scope, the mothod or the crystal not working....

1660 super repair - not detected
Hi,
I have an unknown 1660 super that is not detected
I have done some measurements of the main inductors
1 10ohm and 1v
2 350ohm and 1.8v
3 30ohm 1.3v
4 0.07ohm 0.73v
5 0.07ohm 0.73v
6 0.07ohm 0.73v
7 420ohm 5v
8 500ohm 12v
9 430ohm 12v
I have removed the bios IC and tried a few different bios from Dell and HP for example but no different
Any advice where to go next would be appreciated
Thanks...

Re: Possibly burnt/damaged component U100 on RX460 - can anyone identify?
Just noticed another resistor missing below the 1st one and u100 has the same markings as the working card so don't think it is a burn/scorch mark...Last edited by Scotchmist; 10-07-2021, 01:13 PM.

Re: Possibly burnt/damaged component U100 on RX460 - can anyone identify?
Dicky,
I have two of those exact cards, 1 working and 1 dead.
The resistor does not go across them two pins but goes down instead, see attached image
If you want me to measure anything or take photos of the area with possible parts missing let me know...
