So I just got off ebay this Gigabyte RX580 Gaming with 8GB Micron memory . The thing is the card only starts if I do the paper clip short on BIOS . I booted using the paper clip method in Hive , reflashed the original BIOS again but still won`t boot unless I do again the short on pins 1+5 . Anyone knows why , or how should I recover from this ? Thanks

Re: RX580 Gigabyte Gaming 8GB - Micron - Boots only if I do the BIOS short
Pins 1 and 5 are chip enable and mosi, why would you short those?
You can check the resistors in the chip enable line, seems unlikely the chip itself is bad since you can get it to boot and flash, but you never know. Does this card not have dual-bios and a switch? -
Re: RX580 Gigabyte Gaming 8GB - Micron - Boots only if I do the BIOS short
So I shorted the pins marked with red circle , and managed to reflash BIOs 2 times (once I flashed a hynix memory by mistake)- and afterwards I flashed the original BIOS from gigabyte forum . The thing is the pc won`t boot unless I do again the short on those pins . Unfortunately it is a single mode BIOS (no switches) . Can you point me where I should check the resistors ? ThanksComment

Re: RX580 Gigabyte Gaming 8GB - Micron - Boots only if I do the BIOS short
The 1k resistor looks like its the pullup anyway. Well then I have no idea, nor do I have any idea why you are shorting chip enable and mosi, or why that would make it boot...I think maybe this is a red herring and shorting those pin is not what is making it work.Comment

what do you mean by "red herring" ? I am a total newbie regarding gpu repairdComment

Re: RX580 Gigabyte Gaming 8GB - Micron - Boots only if I do the BIOS short
The pc won`t boot - Display screen stays black . If I short those 2 pins (I read on internet that when card is bricked shorting those pins helps you unbrick it) , everything goes well -pc boots , cards is discovered in HiveOS , etcComment

)) Also a facut that is strange is if I don`t insert the 8pin power supply cable in the slot but card is inpci riser the white led lights up white . When I insert the 8pin power cable it doesn`t lights at all

I use on board primary always . When I do not short those pins it is simply not booting . doesn`t get the motherboard pass bios - the screen just stays blackComment

by RandoomStyleHello i got a card with 12V short, found an IC blown Q510, remove it short persist, found that the short is on 12V GPU, remove all the Mosfets and the short still there, i inject 1.5V to the line and i got 1A of consumption, nothing getting warm, this could be the GPU itself?...1 Photo

I have a problem with Gigabyte Aorus 1080. The card seems fine (expected resistance on vcore, pex, 5v, 1.8v, 12v and reset) except for a dead short on vmem (FBVDD). It's interesting failure mode, cause usually (in my experience) when memory fails it still retains a few ohms - this one is literally a dead short.
I removed the inductors and tried inject voltage (0.8 V at 6 A) which only seemed to warm up the cables to the card while the card itself didn't show any hotspots.
Is there any way to narrow down the search for a short? I would prefer not to remove... -

I picked up a faulty Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 8GB. It was pretty clean, expect from what looked like residue around the thermal pad between the rear of the board and backplate for helping to cool the memory, so I am guessing it had some liquid spilled on it at some point. All I was told is "the screen went black when playing a game".
The 12V external power appears to have a short. The two fuses have blown (circled in red on the image) and I am measuring low resistance (1.6 Ohms) on the output of the fuses to ground. When I inject power at the output of the fuses,... -

I'm looking for a extreme high current short killer solution for a reasonable cost.
I have an LGA1700 motherboard (ASUS PRIME Z790-P WiFi) where I exchanged the LGA socket already 3 times, and every time after the socket exchange I get a short of power supply lines VCORE (V variable) and VCCIN_AUX (1.8V).
After taking off the socket, the shorts dissappear again.
The soldermask on the socket is already partially demaged from the heat, so I have reconstructed the soldermask by manually painting the missing soldermask parts with a very small top of a...10-15-2024, 10:13 AM - Loading...
