GTX 980TI with 2 broken pads on memory module

Hi, I got a 980TI with 2 pads broken under a memory module and yes, they are needed pads, so I just cant ignore them. Ill try to fix them but im waiting for the pads and solder mask to arrive.

Thinking on the worst scenario, is there a way to modify the bios to ignore that module and end with a 5.5 Gb card???? (or 5, or 4, doesnt matter, just dont want to throw it away) Its the 12 of 12 modules, so its the last one. Searched on internet without success.

    Thanks a lot

There probably is a way to edit VBIOS, but wouldn't that collide with Nvidia drivers? I'm thinking fake cards, marketed as GTX1050Ti or so, which usually are GTS450 or something like that - they crash because drivers allocate data to memory which doesn't exist on the GPU.

      Hi,

If these are pads on the board itself, you might have the chance to fix them, also with a very thin copper wire soldered to the rest of the path. If these are pads on the memory module, don't waste time, buy a new memory module on Ali, or buy a broken card with same type of memories, and transplant the module. I would not waste time to try to mod the BIOS.

Hi DynaxSC, its on the board, im waiting for pads and UV solder mask and will try to fix them, the board was tried to be fixed with a heat gun (the one you use for removing paint, oh my god!!!) and he ripped the 2 pads, but I could scratch 0.5mm away from them and hope the solder mask holds the temperature when I install the new memmory module. The guy gave me 3 new memmory modules, one tried to install, so with no balls and 2 like new. He ripped too 2 caps from the nearby lines and 2 small resistors, but I have new parts for that.

N3Star, thanks for your reply too, would you think reflashing with a 4GB 980 bios would be possible? I have all the needed material, but it would be my last option, doesnt matter if I lost 2GB and TI, would be better than nothing.

        Thanks to all

I really doubt if flashing 'regular' 980 VBIOS would work - they have different cores. I'm just saying that I believe it would be technically possible to check where memory signatures are stored and replace them on 980Ti VBIOS, but even if You would do that Nvidia driver still possibly could assign data to physically missing memory chips.

Yes, you are correct, lets hope I can repair the pads, ill post a image from microscope next time I work on the card. Thanks a lot
