Box of ASUS P4 boards, what to do with them.

Ok so I got a box of (8) ASUS P4 boards from a good friend that had several stores and he retired closing his stores.

    1 P4S800D-X
    1 P4P800
    1 P4P800 Deluxe
    4 P4P800E Deluxe
    1 P4C800E Deluxe

They all seem to be working fine, my question is do I recap them and resell them or do I just sell them.

If you don't mind spending $20 on each board for new caps, re-cap them, otherwise, you could just sell them as they are if they are still working. Also, if you are going to re-cap them, remember that the screens on ASUS motherboards are backwards (ie. The white half of the circle is the positive (+) leg and not the negative (-) leg like it usually is).

I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

I'm interested in the P4C800E Deluxe. I've all the caps for mine, just chicken-s**t about taking the system down and having a problem with the recap. Losing the main system (this one) is not a pleasant thought. Reinstalling the ~100 programs will require major

PM me if you'd care to discuss $$.

every p4c800 i have run across has been buggy till they were recapped.
check my poly mod post on the p4c800 and duplicate it.that board has been running 24/7 ever since.it was a 2 bsod a day wonder before.customer now very happy where before she was going to shoot it.
i would recap all those and market them to folks that
        1. want an exact replacement.
        2. dont want a repeat fail and also dont mind paying for the rebuilt board.
this will take time to find that customer but is how i do things.

I laid claim on that board via PM and I'm waiting for reply.

              Nice slap in the face.

@brethin - Don't let it go for less than $100. That's what the minimum is on Ebay.

i noticed they go high on evilbay.some sort of cult following like the bp6 and vp6.
about the best 478 platform made.
toasty if you get one look up my poly mod on here.the extras i sent when you ordered the polys for your imac will come in handy.duplicate that mod exactly and enjoy!
not to make you sick or anything but i just sold a fully polymodded p4c800e deluxe to an employee for $75.

he probably thinks it'll work almost forever, and he's probably not that far off....
and in that case 75$ doesn't seem much...even though there are new mobos for less money...

                  >Reinstalling the ~100 programs will require major

but there's no real need to reinstall...i just converted that biostar system, i just mentioned in other thread, from pata (some old 10gb rather slow disk) to sata (new 300gb 7200.12) while leaving everything as-is.
                  it's this
                  http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;824125
i used "Replace a failed motherboard" solution.
just make image of that hdd with acronis, if the hdd dies...heh...

if i was forced to reinstall everything, i would probably give up on pcs altogether...
                  so i found ways to
1-go from p3 to c2d mobo without the need to reinstall everything...just the drivers were reinstalled (that was pata->pata, but the mobos were totally different...trick was to use universal pata drivers...so that old disk "sees" the new mobo right away)
2-the above mentioned pata->sata trick..although for myself i decided to stay on pata for system disk...

so overall no, no need to reinstall everything...my win2k 2003 installation is still very much functional and with tons of programs.
i just use xp more now, as stby doesn't work on 2k.
s3 stby is such a nice feature of the OS.

I have the hp branded p4c800 I got on ebay for I think $25. Full of Rubycon ZL and Sanyo OSCON's. Some of the really small caps are teapo. Thats about it.

I wonder if I could flash it with the Asus bios...

                      Hard to say for sure.
If you have or can get hold of an eeprom programmer just in case you hose the system then I would experiment away.

I was never brave enough to try these sorts of things because if it messed up, there was no way back.

However I do know the pain of an OEM BIOS...they can be somewhat...limited in functionality.

I've been searching and no luck....

Is it by itself or in the middle of another thread...??

I've searched both by threads and posts:
p4c* and your user name and nada

                          Maybe I need more
