quick question from a noob dumbass!

    Hello,

I have an A7N8X E Deluxe (socket a nforce2). The caps look ok, but the computer was switching itself off and refusing to start without unplugging/replugging. We did this quite a bit whilst trying out different psu, changing ram reseating everything etc. Now it won't restart. Fans spin at low speed and the power LED comes on, but thats it. No indication of life from cpu, hd or on screen.

    My questions are...

    1) is it likely to be the caps even though i can't see any damage
    2) am i likely to have frazzled anything by restarting it so many times that it has failed totally?!

    cheers,

    ben

    Hi!

    1) Capacitors can fail without showing it. What are the markings on them? If they are Chemi-con KZG or Nichicon HM replace them. If they are Rubycon MBZ they will be fine.

2)It's unlikely that restarting the computer repeatedly or re-seating the components would have killed them.

Also, what PSU(s) were you using? The symptoms you are describing may indicate that the board has been damaged by the PSU
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Agree, and add OST to that list. Asus used to like OST and like KZG they will fail with no visiual signs.

Won't kill caps but if done with power available [even just +5vsb] it might kill the chipset.

        thankyou kindly,

the original psu was a 800w seasonic, and the swap out tester was a naff 400w generic pile of crap!

the caps are indeed KZG so its out with the iron and hope that the chipset is fine

        will report back

        cheers, ben

A noob needs help for Apple Macbook Air M1 2020 A2337 - logic board short circuit
          by Guest
          Hello all!

Recently I've got a broken Macbook Air M1 2020 A2337 of eBay with a broken screen and not turning on issue.

After some tinkering I've found C5201 capacitor to be blown. This is where I hit a wall since I am a total noob in this area and have no idea what else to look for. C5201 is on one line with 3 more capacitors which visually seem ok, but beep on continuity mode and also both sides of all capacitors beep when tested with ground from the board. This to me sounds like a short, but I am not able to find what component is before the capacitors to test it....

820-01949 - A2337 - Quick Fan Spin for a Few Seconds. Charging and Main Rails OK
          by willis6732
          Hello,

This macbook wont turn on. Only a quick fan spin. Sometimes fans spin a few second. Somtimes they spin fast for a few seconds. Other than that no signs of life

All the Coils on the board have voltage and battery charges fine as well.

I noticed this not sure if it is suspicious:
          PPVCC_CPU_PH1 / CPUCORE_SW1 = 40 Ohms (Flex Bv shows 90 Ohms)
=.023 Diode Mode (Flex BV shows .090)

I would appreciate som support in the diagnosis.

          Th anks,

New gadgets from HK Mobile fair - quick read
          by mon2
Hello. Somewhat on topic - back from the recent HK Mobile fair. Perhaps of interest to readers:

          1) Replacement batteries and LCD displays are now available that no longer pop warn the end user of the replacement units. Truetone and the IC are present on the replacement devices. JCID and a few others noted this offering. One LCD vendor noted that this solution is not legal but the ID IC being installed is from the same factory used by the OEM.

          2) Met with JCID in Shenzhen - they now have solutions (P15) to take a blank SSD device and configure the part to upgrade the SSD...

          Help a noob! Wson8 Pogo/Needle Adapters to read/Write
          by Doesronnieevenlift
          Hi all,

I had recently tried to reflash the bios on a dell latittude that has a Wson8 Chip however to no avail.

My question is, Has anyone had much success using the Pogo/Needle adapters to read and write bios without removing the chip from the main board?

I seem to struggling with the solder process wofh my reflow station and currently have 4 machines waiting for a bios mod/reflash.

For context I have just ordered a EZP2019 SPI flash so this is what I would be using alongside the Pogo Adapter.

Apologies if this is the wrong subcategory....
