P6VAA: is it worth to repair?

Hi have this PC to fix but I don't know if it is worth to spend money and time on it; every now and than it crashes suddenly and restarts but very often BSOD appears.

MOBO is ECS P6VAA 1.0 VIA 133 SKT370, the CPU is Celeron 700MHz.

As you can see from attached pics, there are some leaking and bulged caps, they are G-Luxon series LZ 1000uF 6.3V.

Also in the PSU I found a leaking cap, it is a Canicon.
About the PSU, it is very similar to a Deer I repaired few days ago but the brand is Tecnoware; compared to the Deer, there are less caps on the output and also missing inductance.
I hope today they use better caps otherwise I have bought the wrong item ( https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...0&postcount=32 ).
By the way this PSU probably is not the original one that came with the case because the date is 2003 on the warranty label.

I dislike to trash something that can be repaired, but in this case I don't know if it is worth because this MOBO is very old (warranty label date 2001) and very slow for today OS and software.

The person that gave me this PC has bought a new one so he doesn't need it back, I can repair it and give it for free to someone, but how long it can run changing only badcaps?

    Ciao

Re: P6VAA: is it worth to repair?

If recapped with known good caps for both the mobo and PSU, there's no reason it can't run for another 10 to 15 years - the only limitations are electro-mechanical (fans and hard drives).

      Hi linuxguru

I'm browsing with my notebook because my monitor, keyboard etc... are connected to ECS Mobo and I'm installing Win.

I have replaced all caps with Panasonic FM series but only when I will have finished with Win and tested the PC I could be sure everything is OK.

Ok I don't expect somebody will be still using it in 2018, but maybe it can be useful again for 3 or 4 years .

I have worked at home and it was not so easy to free the holes especially where the tracks are very large; usually I do this kind of work in my company lab, with desoldering station it is easy.
Well I have do it to save the PC and to make more experience with "home tools" .
