    MSI K8D FA4RM

    Hi,

You can find some pics about these mainboard here : http://virtual.engicomp.hu/~wigyori/msi_k8d_fa4rm/.
Looks like I'll have no prob with the caps on these - at least I hope
(Nice bitch anyway, AMD8111 + 8131, 2x Opterons, 12DIMM, 4SATA, PCI-X all around, integrated ATI RageXL, etc, was bought for webserver and video streaming.)

Due to the "cost-effectiveness" of the company (we have a very nice word in hungarian for this: "szarrago", I'm sure that you also have some other word) a max. of 8Gb will be used in it - which is still very nice IMHO. It's the Flashcomm server mostly that eats up much of the memory...

Dunno... the capacitors may LOOK good, but you never know... why don't you send it my way for some reliability testing? say 10 years worth?

Because the CIO would beat the sh*t out of me
Actually I'm going to stress it for a few days before putting into the datacenter, just to make sure I won't have any nighttime calls from the CIO screaming If you need any info about this mobo of lspci/anything (UbuntuLinux is my favor on A64 platform), just PM/mail/etc me.

it has sanyo os-cons, united chemi-con, i think the yellow K caps are nichicon (but the good series) looks great. what are you going to be running on it? i doubt you will be running ubuntu on that. Better RHEL or Centos.

Since you mention DATACENTER we are just gonna have to want some PICS. Post some on dslreports.com also they LOVE datacenter pics.

wanna see an opteron also (never seen one) actually never seen 8gb of ram also........

I've got 2 gigs of ram in this box (on a msi 694d). Not 8, but good enough for most things.

willawake, I'm pretty sure I'll run Ubuntu on it, I hate Redhat, got no time to get to know Centos, and Ubuntu looks 99% the same as Debian does, which runs on the current P3/866... Solaris10 was chewed a bit also, but found the same problem with Centos - no time to bench it and getting used to it, on this platform...
About the datacenter, I would also LOVE to take some pics about it, however the NOC guys don't allow customers to enter the serverroom, to my greatest regret.
For the pics about the opteron, this way please http://virtual.engicomp.hu/~wigyori/opteron248 . However, I have no pics about the 8Gb memory, 1Gb will be installed as a kickstart, the rest will be bought in the next 3 months, due to financial causes.

nice cpu. thanks for the pics. i see a cap on the pics, you have been recapping.

if you hate redhat then forget centos cos that is what it is. solaris is interesting but when i saw it not configure a 1000mt nic i lost interest. i am sticking with centos at the moment (but still learning, 7 years on windows only but i can see how linux has future on servers).

pity about the datacenter, i was interested to see what you guys in hungary are up to. i think you would suprise us.

dont worry about the budgets, we all have the same problems. they spend all the money on BS.

redhat quite deserves all the hate it gets. :P

                    Debian is very nice...

Yes, a Mercury 845NDFSX mobo was on the operating desk
Mmm, I don't think I would surprise (all of) you, nearly all the ISPs have the same datacenter feeling, large racks, some Ciscos, some rackmountable boxes, some tower boxes, etc... but if I get the chance, I'll post some pics...
BS? I don't know this term.. (bullshit maybe? )

bushytails, I think you got familiar with the RPM However, we shouldn't start a holy war here and bomb

                        Rackmount = Porn

it is always interesting and sometimes suprising to see datacenter implementations around the world.

for instance XS4ALL netherlands and their fluorescent green cabinets.

                        http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...9587~mode=flat

i dont want to start a holy war, i tried, suse, mandrake, ubuntu and then fedora which was the only one to recognise all the hardware perfectly. so then i tried centos cos i want to get into RHEL without paying heh. i guess each to his own. should i try debian also?

problem is that i need to lock myself in a room with linux for a few months, i am not finding enough time to dedicate to it. so i am going with win2k server for the new office fileserver install which i know already. it is a pity, i saw the fileserving performance of fedora over gigabit to be blinding fast. will take me another year to be confident in administering linux. it is funny cos my site is hosted in linux and i find cpanel to be so comfortable. wish i could find interfaces like cpanel to configure all server functions.

Fixed a 9 year old UN55JU650 by replacing backlight. Original backlight LED was still working after 27k! hours but terrible picture of course. Few LEDs were out, 5-6 lens fell off (bright white spots) and another few popped off with slightest force. Surviving LEDs were all slightly blue so picture has a blue tint.

Hello again! I have come back for some wisdom and hopefully for some guidance with this problem I'm having. The TV is a 4k 55" Sharp LC-55p6050u and the problem is every other line of the bottom 32 lines flickers out, comes mostly back, then flickers out again, and repeats this continually. The lines on the bottom right of the screen go out completely while the lines on the bottom left are affected so slightly that it's almost impossible to see it. There is a gradual gradient from appearing almost perfectly fine on the bottom left, to an obvious problem on the bottom right.

                            The...

Hey everybody, got a strange one here.

The TV will display the Home Screen, Menus, Netflix Home Screen, YouTube home screen with preview tiles, etc, without issue. As soon as I try to play video (streaming or from any of the HDMI inputs), all I get is audio and and blank screen. It's like the video is not being processed. So I ordered a replacement main board. I can now play video from streaming sources but the video from HDMI sources is all green (kinda like photo negatives but all green) and the audio does not work. Is it possible the main board I ordered is also failing?? I can't...
