    ASRock DUAL V-SATA 2

Just got this mainboard recently as I'm planning to upgrade to an Athlon X2.

I will soon have all the bits I need to test this board, as it was sold as "untested" - from the original eBay auction (translated from Italian with corrected grammar my me)

    =============================================
Board does not include cd drivers, or maunal and backplate. The board comes from stock of the shop, but I was not able to test functionality.

In this respect, I do not want to receive negative feedback if the board is not working. If you have any questions please contact me and ask, thanks!
    =============================================

I have aquired a TESTED/WORKING Athlon X2 4400+ 939 to use in the board, and a Thermaltake HSF (still in the post)

My hesitation comes when I see that the board is PEPPERED with caps from bad manufacturers!

However, there are NO signs of:

    1) Overheating
    2) Bulging / Leaking caps
    3) Replaced / resoldered components
    4) Busted scraped tracks

Anyhow, I'll supply you guys with a picture sometime later today...
(not ATM, as it's currently approx. 3:30AM in the U.K.)

The bad cap manufacturer list is as follows. Note, under each of them I have listed some Rubycon Caps (and others) that I intend to buy and replace the bad caps with.

BAD Cap manufacturer list with replacements below and eBay links...
    ===================================================

    OST 1000uF 16V (x25)
    To Be Replaced By [T.B.R.P.]
Rubycon MCZ 1000uF 10V (Ultra Low ESR)

    OST 470uF 16V (x2)
    [T.B.R.P.]
Rubycon MBZ 470uF 16V (Ultra Low ESR)
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=019

    OST 3300uF 6.3V (x6)

Rubycon 3300uF 6.3V (Ultra Low ESR)

    TEAPO 100uF 16V (x11)
    [T.B.R.P.]
Panasonic Elkos 100uF 35V (Low ESR)
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/10-Elkos-Low-i...QQcmdZViewItem

The mainboard is not all bad though, it thankfully also contains the following:

    United Chemicon KZE 1200uF 16V (x4)
    United Chemicon KZE 1500uF 6.3V (x1)

    ...near the ATX PSU connector.

All I'm wondering is the following...(yes FINALLY the questions! LOL!)

    1) Are my selected replacement Caps suitable?

    2) Is it recommended I should test the board BEFORE I begin re-capping?

    Cheers in advance!

P.S. Almost forgot to mention, I also have a new Pyropen on the way...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&ih=003

...I will be doing a LOT of reworking on some of my equipment - OH YES!

    Re: ASRock DUAL V-SATA 2

I have the predecessor board in my system, but not yet completely recapped. I bought this board new for one or two years.
Right before i put it in my system, i added the missing 3300uf cap and replaced the 1000uF Ost at the little step down converter`s input for the chip set supply.
The CPU VRM is already equipped with KZG & KZE.

Your cap choice is fine, except for the 1000uF Ost near the RAM socket`s i would use an long endurance cap series rather than a low endurance one.

The Vmem is regulated by a linear voltage regulator, which generates a lot of heat.
ESR is at this location not that important.
The orignal Ost does have an ESR value of 0,068Ω.
So i think Panasonic FM, FC , Rubycon ZL or YXF would be ok at this location (i mean near the two MOS FET ).

I certainly would test the board prior to recapping. Just power it up on your desk.
If you don`t do it, how would you ever know if it was a DOA or killed by your recapping skills? it think this would save you a lot of trouble during a troubleshooting procedure....

      Hmm okay...

I'll have to buy the 1000uF cap.s in BULK.
(37 of them in total for the mainboard and the AMD M2 upgrade card)

So would you recommend either Rubycon ZLH or YXH for longer life.

Obviously I'll test the board beforehand...but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Mine also has that 'missing' 3300uF cap at the PSU socket section, but there are many spots with 'blank' cap silkscreen - so aren't they missing because they are no longer needed due to board revision?

Oh and there are MANY 1000uF caps near the RAM slots, but I think I spot the one you are writing about - its DIRECTLY left of the DIMM slots...am I correct?
(not that it matters, ALL those OST's and TEAPO's are going in the bin!)

...and on a side note, I also noticed that my CURRENT Mainboard (Soltek SL-75FRN2-RL) is also covered in OST caps...

...still it's been stable and with no signs of leaking/bulging caps since 2003.

But I might re-cap it before selling it on - just for safety!

Whoops! just noticed the mistake you mentioned for the Rubycon 1000uF caps...I picked ones with TOO LOW voltage level...DUH!

        OST 1000uF 16V (x25)
        To Be Replaced By [T.B.R.P.]
Rubycon MCZ 1000uF 10V (Ultra Low ESR)
Also the Rubycon ZLH or YXH are unavailable on eBay...

But I located some Panasonic FK type:

        http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/10-Panasonic-M...QQcmdZViewItem

Also decided to change to Panasonic FJ for the 3300uF caps...as I don't need 100pcs of 3300uF caps...it's just too much wasting money!

Not sure, but i think the only16v caps are those at the PCI-E slot (the 470uF). All the other 1000uF Ost could probably safely be replaced with 6,3v caps.
If unsure chek the voltage at the locations.

I think ZLH or FK is a good replacement for th hot cap`s.

Regarding the Soltek, i sold a K7S5APro for several years, and i have not recapped the Ost caps.
The only problem the system developed after a year was, that the system was loaded with malware & worms.
At that time i replaced the last Teapo (as preemptive action, as ripple figurs at the scope where not up to my liking) in the FSP250MDN PSU with a Panasonic FM and removed the worms.
The Ost are still holding up. So i think, if it is not your actual gaming rig, you can omit recapping the Ost.

So i think if you sell this board, you probably don´t get paid for your extra work and the caps.

That would be generous of you... If I were you, i would just leave the TEAPO 100uF 16V there.. 11 of them to be recapped will gona be a lot of works... IMO they rarely fail anyway...

good taste on panny fk, they got long endurance and low esr enough to be used on cpu vrm input and memory section..

                Re: ASRock DUAL V-SATA 2

                Hallo peeps!

                I'm BAAAACK!

Now using my ASRock board, so here's the skinny.

                THE GOOD
                ========

Board works beautifully - everything is very nice!

                THE BAD
                =======

It's "lets re-install XP and all my software" time!

                GROAN!

It wouldn't be such a problem...but I have two 200GB HDDs filled with apps and games...

...should take me about 1 month or so...EEK!

Also, I forgot to backup my desktop shortcuts before re-installing...so I lost those.

(remembered everything else though - PHEW!)

                NEWS ABOUT CAPS
                ===============

Well, I agree with you guys - the old Soltek will remain STOCK. No point in re-capping if it's being sold on and it has run fine for the past 4 years anyhow!

As for the caps for my new ASRock - I'll be using EXCLUSIVELY Panasonic for all the re-capping.

I was going to get some Rubycon MBZ 470uF 16V for the TWO 470uF caps I need to replace...but...

A quick look in my trash basket of old PC cards and old components yielded...

TWO Panasonic FA 470uF 16V - tested working!

                RESULT!

Anyhow, I have quite a bit of re-installing to do...I'll keep you guys posted and take some pics of the process once all the caps arrive along with my Weller Pyropen.

                Adios for now!

                  Re: ASRock DUAL V-SATA 2

Okay, my Pyropen arrived and I figured out it's a:

Weller Pyropen Piezo WPA2 (model number not printed on it ANYWHERE!)

                  ...the problem?

No manual, and I've never used one of these before.

Sure, I'd like to practice on some old PCB's - but I need the manual first.

Anyone got an Idea as to where I can get a .PDF of the manual?

I managed to find a .PDF for the other model (non-peizo) WSTA3...but it's different!

Help me if you can folks...

                      Re: ASRock DUAL V-SATA 2

When you choose replacement caps you should look at the series of the original caps and not just the brand.

Just like Ruby has MCZ, MBZ, LZ, YXG, and, and, and, ......
..... OST has more than one series and the ratings are different.

Going for caps that are rated better than what is needed doesn't hurt anything but it does reduce the number of possible replacements.

If those 100uF don't have vents I wouldn't worry about them.
Different series. Different electrolyte. Not prone to forming gases. -> No vents.

Well, I re-capped the AM2 upgrade board yesterday - everything went great!
(can't test it yet though, as this will be a future upgrade when I have the cash...)

I've decided NOT to use salvaged caps for the mainboard - as they would be harder to fit into those teeny solder holes...

All I have to wait for now is the remaining 470uF caps and I'm good to go.

Pictues after I re-cap the mainboard.

                        MERRY CHISTMAS folks!

Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
