Hi, I just bought an Aopen AK77 off Ebay for a good price. As advertised it's working (well I put Duron 600, RAM and GFX in it and posted on the table) but there are six capacitors looking very dodgy.
Most of the larger ones are "KZE" brand and they all look fine, however all six of the Lelon ones look bad, all have bulging tops, four with residue on top and the other two have blown the plugs out the bottom and residue over the motherboard! The best bit is one of them only has one leg soldered to the board, the other is bent under the cap!!! How can it have failed when not electrically connected, unless the "folded" leg is making connection some how???
How does the board still work!?!? [can take/ host pics if anyone wants to see]
There are two 1200uF, 6.3V ones, I have some 1500uF 6.3V Rubycon MCZs off another failed board I could use. (They'd be OK wouldn't they?)
The others Lelons are 3300uF 10v and 10mm diameter. I don't have anything like that and despite quite some searching no idea where to get in the UK. From what I turned up it seams to be a problem, 6.3v not so bad and should be OK, as from what I understand computer volts are 12v (presume not as only 10v rated) and next step down is 5v so 6.3v rated caps should be OK. Not that I can find them in the UK at the moment either.
I've got some 2200uF, 6.3v Rubycon MBZs off another failed board but I guess they won't do and not keen to try unless likely? (Hardly be worse than the failed/blown/not connected existing ones though)
On the motherboard I might squeeze 12.5mm diameter caps in but would like to find a source for the 10mm ones as I have a PSU I'd like to repair that also needs 3x 3300uF, 10mm that definitely won't squeeze 12.5mm ones.
If anyone can point me to some in the UK I'd be very grateful.
I know TopCat has them but, sadly, as far as I can tell doesn't deal outside US/Canada. Unless some kind soul in the US can order some and then forward to me. (Obviously I'd pay for them and all the postage and a little extra for the effort ;-)
Thanks, Seb
