Re: Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M recap worked but now dead?
Some of Gigabytes motherboards require much lower ESR values than HM series. Especially the VRM outputs. Also we do not know exactly what he replaced the original caps with. Real or fakes? Also some socket 754 boards a finicky about the DDR choices. A lot yet to be confirmed.

Hm should work fine for a motherboard, check that they are all soldered properly including polar direction and the actual solder joints.Leave a comment:

Re: Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M recap worked but now dead?
Sometimes Nichicon HM is not quite low enough ESR replacements. Try resoldering/ reheating the caps just incase of a cold or incomplete joint exists somewhere. It is easy to see the solder on the bottom of the board but not on the top being covered up by the caps bung.Leave a comment:

Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M recap worked but now dead?
Hi,
Thought I'd try out a 64 bit motherboard
It's very tidy with no scratched traces
I recapped this motherboard's input and output VRM caps (previously had bloated output caps) with new HM's.
And after a few days of it running nicely, just when i had nearly finished with sorting out a dual boot, it packed a sad.
What happens now is this:
When the wall socket switch is turned on, the computer starts immediately.
Then it makes a long high pitched beep followed by (a few seconds later) a long low pitched beep then nothing more (not repeating).
Using the computer power button, the machine can be powered down (and also restarted after pushing it again).
I have removed the board from the case, disconnected all periphial devices and IDE cables - same result as above
Tried another CPU - same result as above
No video display from either the onboard video or the AGP video card (when inserted)
Tried another PSU - no difference
Tried different RAM/slots - same result
Removed all RAM - get correct repeating beep code for missing RAM
Seems that the Award BIOS is at least partly OK
Any idea what to look for next?Last edited by socketa; 01-22-2015, 08:35 PM.Tags: None

by momakaMore eBay specials: this time a Gigabyte GP-P450b 450W ATX PSU for $8 with free S&H. Listed “For part/not working”, as usual. Showed up in a beat up EVGA box without any padding… but that's understandable given the total price. PSU made it out fine without damage. It's a non-modular (yay!), pretty modern-day looking PSU with a black paint and all black cables (meh, not my favorite, but figure it's good to keep a few of these in case I do need one for a more modern PC build, just so my old gray boxes don't look too odd in there.)
And a shot of the label:... -
by ProttHey!
I have a problem with Gigabyte Aorus 1080. The card seems fine (expected resistance on vcore, pex, 5v, 1.8v, 12v and reset) except for a dead short on vmem (FBVDD). It's interesting failure mode, cause usually (in my experience) when memory fails it still retains a few ohms - this one is literally a dead short.
I removed the inductors and tried inject voltage (0.8 V at 6 A) which only seemed to warm up the cables to the card while the card itself didn't show any hotspots.
Is there any way to narrow down the search for a short? I would prefer not to remove... -
by JimMc0Hi there,
I discovered this forum through a youtuber who teaches electronic repair. I've been trying to troubleshoot my dad's old PC which is a Gigabyte GA-H61M-USB3-B3 and will not power on. I discovered a dead short on the 3.3v rail at the ATX connector so I used a bench power supply to feed 3.3v into the ATX connector and sunk about 400mA into the board (I hope that's not too much!). I used a FLIR camera to identify the problem area:
The chip seems to be the following, an ITE IT8892E 1108-CXS which seems to be a PCI bridge?

so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!!
what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!
i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...-
