    ECS K7SOM+ On-board Processor burned

Recently got myself a ECS K7SOM+ after checking and found that
the processor burned and causing short on VRM circuit ..

Thinking to removed the burned processor and fixed with
ZIF socket ..anyone can tell me how to do it ?

Maybe using a heatgun to remove the bad CPU, then get a ZIF socket (again using a heatgun on a dead board). The most time consuming part would be cleaning all the holes and then soldering the socket in.

Find a used socketed board and recap it...

Here it is in a nutshell...

      PcChips M810D / ECS K7SOM
      PcChips M810D 5.2A / ECS K7SOM+ V5.2A Thoroughbred XP 2400+
      PcChips M810D 7.5A / ECS K7SOM+ 7.5A Thoroughbred XP 2600+ (266 version)

      PcChips M810D 7.5C / K7SOM+ 7.5C CANNOT upgrade, embedded cpu.

      NOTE: PCChips M810D / ECS K7SOM+ : Remove C453 for XP support.

yup,u r write ..but the problem is i don't have access to heatgun..possible
to use sucker to removed one by one of the pin ?

I think I see where MD is going with this.
The frustration and failure factor with removing a CPU and inserting a socket is way more than finding a board like yours with a socket and putting in all good capacitors
            for stability.

Exactly... there are MILLIONS of those boards around. The ones with the embedded CPU are a real pain...

I can say "good luck" with your project!

Have the burned processor removed by slowly knocked the processor in pieces then
removed the pin one by one ..now is trying to fixed the zif socket ..

it likely has a vrm problem.
                                look for shorted mosfets.

Please back up a bit. How in the name of all that has pins on it did you get a line up and set down of the socket.
What was your method? heat source?
I read up on the manufacturing process for these, and they use an electron microscope and xrays to check the joints.

I don't think it's hard to solder. If the holes are clean (cleaning is probably the biggest problem) and the socket pins straight (not a problem when removed from another board using heatgun), you just put it in and solder the pins one-by-one.

The board I thought about doing this to was surface mount proc and socket, so I was thinking small pads, heat and compression.

Many P4 boards have SMD socket - that's really a problem.
