    GA-6VA recap

My folks use an old GA-6VA R3 for their basic net needs. It started playing up while I was there, not even getting past BIOS sometimes. Machine was cold.
I rolled my eyes at my luck and took it home for further diag.
It continued playing up at my place intermittently in the same fashion, even after swapping PSU's and stripping the board to ram/cpu/vga and checking for shorts.
Swapped ram/cpu/vga (found one of my spare cpu's dies in Memtest) but still no solid cause.

I didnt want to build a new system and set up Win with all their email stuff etc., so recap it is.......

    Board consists of 12 X Sanyo's and 16 X Choyo 330uF 25V

I wanted to replace Choyo's with decent Samxons, but Jaycar dont have a decent range (no 330uF25V low ESR) - they only had KM's in this range.
So off to RSComponents, PaniFC are the go....

Board now works fine - been in service for about a week, after a few days of hard stress testing with me, no problems.
There must have been a bad Choyo there somewhere, but no physical signs of bulging etc.

There was a weird problem with the PS2 port before and after this recap as well (both power and HD led's come on half lit - system won't boot) if an optical mouse is plugged in to it. Maybe an amperage issue introduced with opt-mice over a ball-mouse?
Regardless, the mouse stays in USB ports anyway, so it's no biggie. I'm just glad it's out of here....

Wish I had a hundred bucks for every time I've said that.
