Asus have been skimping on components for quite a while

The CMOS module finally expired on my trusty late-model-of-the-series P55T2P4, running a K6/3-400 at stock settings
Late model board identified by the 3.2V OK sticker showing it could run a power hungry K6-233

Should be easy to swap the CMOS module, except Asus skimped by soldering it direct to the board, must have saved a couple of cents by omitting a socket for it

Had the exact same board, i went for the ghetto fix, that is cutting apart the module, soldering 2 wires and attaching a regular CR2032 battery holder.

I think we need a dedicated ghetto mod thread.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

I was wondering about cutting the module open as well, to attach an external battery. I have an old dual socket8 board that I took out of production because the RTC battery was dead and desoldering was not going very well (could not get solder out of any of the holes...)

I guess by this point a dual socket8 board is kind of long in the tooth, and time for the whole board to be put in the trash...
