    MSI K7T Turbo Ver3

After owning at least 6 MSI boards over the years, one of my oldest im suspecting of having bulging and possibly soon to be dead caps.

The board is a MicroStar (MSI) K7T Turbo Version3, the 2 caps (only ones with physical problems) are CHHSI ( ? ) 2700 microfarad 6.3v caps, placed between the AGP and CPU socket. The system itself doesn't show any problems, with stability or booting issues, it was just quite accidental that i noticed them.

They seem to be bulding, a little bit tilted, but have orange / brown dried crusty crap on the bulding tops of them.

They're bad and NEED to be replaced ASAP!! If they short, it's adios for the board!! I just trashed an Abit KT7-R that someone let go too long with bad caps... It destroyed the board, CPU and his power supply!

2700uF can be safely substituted with 2200uF caps. 2200uF caps are easier to find and usually cheaper.

I have this board also but on mine all 4 of the 4700uF 6.3v caps popped open. No others shown any changes in size. The closest size cap I can get from radio shack is a 4700uF 35v which im assuming the higher voltage isnt close enough to be safe. Tommorrow I'll be checking with the local tv repair shop to see if they can get anything closer, if not I'm hoping I get get some from this site.

Higher voltage is always ok... the problem with Radio Shack ones is they're unlikely to be low-esr (though will probably work, since chances are they're still quite a bit better than insta-explode brand), and are probably about ten times the size of the originals, making fitting them a pain and/or ugly...

Here are some pics of my bad capacitors(800x600 ~100kb)

All the bad ones are made by Lelon, the 2 other large green ones are made Teapo. The 2 black ones above the AGP slot are made by G-Luxon and the rest of the caps are made by Teyah, all of which are on the bad brands list *cries*. I got this board off of Ebay for $30 about a year ago for a pc I built for my sister. The only problem with it was the onboard sound, only one speaker was getting signal. Not a big problem since I had a spare soundcard. Now it doesnt work at all because of these cheapo caps.

            damn those are nasty caps

if that is a typical msi it will be easy to recap and do a great job (the solder pads around the holes should be quite large). the caps are also mostly well spaced and there are not too many.
