Replace the motherboard or have someone repair the bad motherboard.

        Re: Dell d620 motherboard dead

I was troubleshooting a similar problem on a d620. Using this very same article from Dell, we determined the problem was in the motherboard.
So the laptop was still under warranty and Dell sent out a technician to replace the motherboard.

9th Gen Dell Optiplex Micro PC motherboard repair: Short Circuit?
            by Geeker007
Hi All, I have a 9th Gen Dell Optiplex micro PC motherboard which doesn't power on. When I connect the motherboard with power adapter, it goes into safe mode and turns off. So from info I have gathered online, it looks like there is a short circuit on the motherboard. So can you guys help me with figuring out the issue?

I am new to electronics repair, so my queries could be naive but I am ready to learn.

So I have a multimeter and a solder with me. But I can try to get a variable voltage power supply with a thermal camera as well. From what I seen online, best way is...

            Dell Latitude E6540 - 2nd dead motherboard
            by DrvLikHell
Greetings and sanitations! Several years ago I received some really awesome help on this forum for fixing my monitor (which is still working) so I figure maybe someone can help with this laptop issue.

I have a Dell E6540, motherboard 9411P, DP/N:VWNW8. A year ago it died a strange death where at first it wouldn't turn on all the time, but would turn on when it felt like it, then it got worse where it wouldn't turn on at all and I would just get a flashing light. So I replaced the motherboard with a matching part number board. (I still have the old motherboard) Now a year later this...

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
            by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Hi, I'm new to laptop repairing, but not new to electronics. I just opened a laptop a friend gave me (no power) , and I was hoping for shorted main power rail , a bad capacitor or a bad dc-in mosfet. Up until now I haven't found a short or something obviously burned, the dc-in mosfets seem to work ok, the + on the big capacitors close to the CPU have an OK resistance to ground (around 14-15ohm) but following this thread here I connected the motherboard to the power brick to check the voltages. I didn“t do a lot of poking around when I noticed that the CPU was rather hot (over 55-60C to the touch)....
