Hi

I am a computer science student from Slovenia – Europe. I have one of your motherboard MS-6330Lite. installed Duron 750 on it. The first problem was two capacitors stopped working (both on the upper side of AGP slot. I replaced them with new ones.

Now when I start computer, installed only with CPU and FAN. The computer freezes. Same thing happens if I add HDD SDRAM and ATI graphic card.

This happens in a about 10 seconds after I power it up. No meather where I am in bios, or trying to get in OS.

I tried to measure the voltage on connectors. After starting the yellow V goes to 12.40-12.36 and when it freezes it jumps to 11.12. Then I measured new capacitors voltage and there is on start V about 3.32 and jumps to 3.34 when the machine freeze. Same by bigger capacitors above the CPU, there is something about 5.11 and jumps up for a few mV.

Then I can only put the power down and up again.

Can you give me some advice what can I do, I try to learn I know it s an old thing but it means so much to me. I don't want to throw it away yet, and the services in Slovenia are as expensive as new board.

Ismthere a way to messure bad capacitors.. of if they are doing their job?

From your mail, two capacitors stopped working, and we would not recommend you could replace it manually. We would suggest you could contact your reseller to ask for a RMA. If your reseller can not help you for some reason, please contact MSI branch distributor or MSI office near your place

It is highly likely that the capacitors in your power supply have failed. Take a look and see if any are bulging or leaking. When you replace capacitors always make sure you have the correct type, most of those that fail are Low ESR. Take care to make sure that they are inserted into the circuit board with the negative connection in the correct position (identified by the vertical stripe on the capacitor) Most circuit boards are printed with a half circle indicating either the positive or negative connection. It is important you work this out correctly.

Is there a way to messure the capacitors values? if they are working corectly, with a multi meter? like values of V can i chack something else? I changed it corectly, i think they, the one are installed are not lowESR but they are still -40 to 105°C and same values as ones that filed to work. The power supplay is new 2 weeks old, it should work it worked few days in a new machine..

They need to be Low ESR, will not work otherwise

What exact make and model of capacitors did you put in?

Welcome markomad

You'll first have to find out if a fault with your power supply is in fact the direct cause of the out-of-spec 12v reading, or not.

One non PSU-related possibility: your PSU is working as it always has done, but a shorted component on the motherboard is giving rise to a huge +12v vs. +5v crossload, sending your PSU lines out of spec.

If this were the case, you may find that as the +12v plummets, the +5v line rises, possibly beyond the +5% ATX spec of 5.25v.

I put in what i got in Slovenia here is almost no way to get lowESR models .. i don't know the model but that that are in are 10v/2700uF - Suntan if that helps =).


What can i messure to find the broken link - shotred component ?

The BIOS battery has 2.86V could thise be a problem?
